Tale of 5/7 Gamers.
Hi, currently participating in two Tale of xx gamers, One as Wood Elves, and one as High Elves.
With my Wood Elves, I currently have to play
Tomb Kings, Daemons of Chaos, Empire and Lizardmen
The next points cost for this is 1250 points, and I initially went for mainly MSU Glade guard units for 750 points and 1000 points, Which didn't prove too handy so was considering this list.
Spellweaver - Level 4, Elven Steed
Noble - BSB, Hail of Doom Arrow, Elven Steed.
10 Glade Riders - Musician
10 Dryads
3 Treekin
Treeman
=1249
Basic idea, Spellweaver and Noble runs around with the Glade Riders as a bunker, hoping to get behind lines and just be a nuisance, The Dryads, Treekin and Treeman just takes the brunt and
does damage. I know this list isn't optimal against Daemons, due to negating my ward save. But I wasn't sure which way to go for it.
With my High Elves, I'll be playing:-
Ogres, Wood Elves, Vampire Counts, Warriors of Chaos, and a themed Daemon army (I'm not sure which theme, but I don't *think* it's Khorne)
We start at 500 points, and I wasn't sure on which list to take..
I thought of:-
1)
Noble - Great Weapon, Armour of Caledor
15 Spearmen
10 Swordmasters - Full Command, Ruby Ring of Ruin
Great Eagle.
2)
Mage - Silver Wand
10 Archers - Musician, Standard
10 Swordmasters - Full Command, Ruby Ring of Ruin, Banner of Eternal Flame.
Great Eagle
3)
Mage - Silver Wand
10 Archers - Musician, Standard, Banner of Discipline
5 Dragon Princes - Full Command
Great Eagle.

Re: Tale of 5/7 Gamers.
Let me start by saying that I don't play WE, but I regularly play against them.
What I normally see from my buddy is dryads in groups of eight. That also seems to be the most popular number on these forums.
I wouldn't take a big unit of ten glade riders. They seem to die too easily to normal shooting, which you'll see lots of from Empire and LM.
Also, I think you should have at least one unit of glade guard to take out opposing chaff. You can probably kill a small unit every turn with them.
For your HE, I like list one. The ring is awesome at that points level, especially for taking out any ethereal units you might see (which are otherwise basically impossible to deal with). It also more than makes up for your lack of shooting. I personally would rather have it on the noble just to make sure it stays around long enough to be used all game. I don't like the idea of having a 25pt magic item on a 1W, 5+AS champion. I also would rather have the command options on the spearmen. The SMs will do enough killing; they won't need the +1CR from the banner like the spearmen will.

Re: Tale of 5/7 Gamers.
I agree with Moss on the HE list. Get rid of the command and simply add two swordmasters (+3 attacks in CC when playing 6x2, so this should account for two wounds to the enemy). Put the item on the hero and put him in the Spearmen unit...

Re: Tale of 5/7 Gamers.
The problem is I can't have my Noble with the Armour of Caledor and Ruby ring, which is why I put it on the champion.
I know it wasn't ideal, but it's the best way I could get both, due to otherwise going over the 125 points I can spend on heroes in a 500 point game.
I also redid my wood elf list, and I got this.
Spellweaver - Level 4, Dispel Scroll - Talisman of Endurance
Noble - BSB, Hail of Doom Arrow
8 Dryads
8 Dryads
12 Glade Guard - Musician,
3 Treekin
Treeman

Re: Tale of 5/7 Gamers.
Oops. Forgot about that minor detail. In that case, keep everything as is. Do you have to keep your magic item builds as the army grows?
I like the new WE list. I don't know if it's "optimal" or anything, but I would for sure have fun playing against that list.

Re: Tale of 5/7 Gamers.
That, is actually a very good question.
I've just asked one of the organisers, He said they can be swapped around "as fluff wise, harder units could always bully them off the others or they can be lost or found on the field of battle"
I changed it slightly judging by what you guys said.
Noble - Great Weapon, Armour of Caledor
15 Spearmen - Standard
10 Swordmasters - Champion, Ruby Ring of Ruin
Great Eagle.
=500
Wood Elf list, to be honest, I'm not too fussed about playing an optimal list there, I knew I was on a disadvantage with being paired off with Lizardmen and Daemons :P
Just going down fighting, and having fun is all I'm wanting :P

Re: Tale of 5/7 Gamers.
I am a HE player and I play a list very similar to your second one and so, naturally, I prefer that one. The spearmen a good but I like the archers better. At 500 pts the archers are plenty good enough to deal with riff-raff and assist the SM in hand to hand. "What?" you say? Yes it's true. In CC the HE archers till get 10 ASF S3 hits, not as good as the spearmen, but plenty enough to mess with average joes, plus you get 10 30" bow attacks to weaken opponents before they arrive to the SM mincemeat-maker. The extra spearmen are going to net you 3 or 4 extra hits at S3, so maybe 1 or 2 more wounds at the most, against which your opponent will get his full save. The bows are weak, but you will get to fire them for many more turns than the spears will be in CC which nets more overall attacks, more chances to wound. More importantly, the ring is the only ranged attack you have. Even an opponent with no wizard at all can dispel it with little effort and D6 S4 attacks isn't worth bringing for 25 pts. If you are concerned about ethereals I think you would be better off giving the Amulet of Light to one champion and a 5 pt magic weapon to the other and give somebody the Gleaming Pennant. Frankly, unless you are facing a VC player you won't have to deal with ethereals anyway and in that case I would get a Gem of Courage, a Gleaming Banner, and a 10pt item for somebody because you have no LD rerolls.
I've played my version of the second list several times and it does very well, especially with the Lore of Fire on the mage.
