Newly Returned Play - Help me start a High Elf Army!

I saw a similar post and shamelessly decided to copy it. I played Warhammer back in 4e and took a long break after school.

I've lurked occasionally on Warseer and GW.com watching the game (and models) evolve. With life slowing down a bit, I decided to get back into the hobby. I've got some old HE models and want to start a HE and OnG army (I enjoy painting a variety). I'm starting a second thread for the OnG.

I think I'll mostly be playing 1,000 point games with occasional 1,500 point tournaments. I don't have any feel for frequent opponents.

I'm fairly certain I'm grabbing -

- 14 x Swordmasters
- 30 x Spearmen w/ FC
- 14 x Archers w/ Musician
- 15 x White Lions w/ FC
- 2 x Eagles
- 1 x BSB on foot
- 2 x Mages on Foot

What else should I paint up? I'd like to have some different options at the 1,000 - 1,500 point level.

That looks like a fairly solid start to a HE army to me. Dragon princes are decent cavalry units to consider, especially in 8th ed as a lot of people run around with at least one unit sporting the flaming banner. Maybe a lion chariot if you like the model too, they're expensive but great if they can get to the right unit at the right time.

That's the core of a really good army. You can probably get away with not buying another model.

Though, for the sake of variety, you may consider 20 or so Phoenix Guard. And shadow warriors, though eagles do their job for cheaper.

i'd increase the size of the elite infantry units. wile they may have heavy armour (and even better with WL) they still are only T3 and a decent magic missile that happens to get past you mages may force them to take a panic test. True they're high elves so they'll likely pass but better safe than sorry.

Hey I have some hig elves I would like to sell you. I started collecting thinking I wanted to do a theme of like Malekith's army before the civil war, but I have too many armies and will never have time to finish.
I have 2 set of the Island of blood stuff
a couple old bolt throwers
a lion chariot (horses too)
korhil, alith anar, a bsb and a mounted hero...
and some partially built archers... (enough part to finish)

HE spearmen and mind razor is all you need!!

But seriously, get some phoenix guard and more White Lions. IMO White Lions (stubborn s6) and Phoenix Guard (4+ ward) are the best special choices on foot. Swordsmen can be devastating but need the right matchups or buffs. WL and PG are just plain great at the start.
