Air-mobile Space Marine army?
Does anyone have good guidelines for fielding a Space Marine army using transport aircraft? I've got a Landing Craft and four Thunderhawk Gunships, and I quite like the idea of having an army entirely deployed by air. Any suggestions?
If the idea is terrible, I don'w ant to hear "do something else instead"; I'd like to improve this as best I can rather than ditching it for something else. I've had the models for years and they're cool and shiny, so I'd like to see them used. For reference, I'd be aiming for 3,000 points or thereabouts, using the Space Marine army list from the rulebook.

It's actually a fairly strong army from what I've read.

Re: Air-mobile Space Marine army?
yup, most marine armies at UK tournaments tend to bring a couple of thunderhawks.... the general tactic is to have one full of terminators and the other empty, full thawk flies on and engages, terminators massacre enemy unit, last activation of the turn, empty thawk flies on and picks up said terminators, rinse and repeat..... might be even nastier with 2 sets of thawks and terminators.....
my only experience with a landing craft was getting a lucky critical on one which was stuffed to the gills with predators, probably winning me the game.....

Re: Air-mobile Space Marine army?
Yeah, Landing craft always seems a little bit eggs-in-one-basket to me. The way in which SM formations are pretty expensive already makes risking the points for the LC and the fm it is carrying a little bit too much for me
Otherwise I would say 2 Thunderhawks seems about average for a 3k SM list (and what I plan to have in mine, then again it also has 4 tactical formations so may not be the best thing!). Also look into loading one up with one assaul fm and one Dev fm - as this allows for a killer assault support.

I love Landing Craft - the FF3+ with 4 attacks is ace!
