A long time ago, 4th edition 40k actually, I started a space marine army as this "race" had lots of scope for converting and customizing with a wide range of plastics. Then the new Dark Angels plastics arrived and got my interest. I like bikes and all the vehicles I own are dark angels green, err I mean British Racing Green ! So I decided to drop the "vanilla" marines for the sons of the lion. The only problem is I am mainly a fantasy player so they never got finished because of my square bases. With the arrival of 5th edition I did the mandatory two troops and an HQ, assembled some more plastics and the project stalled again. Hopefully with 6th and the imminent starter set, my third attempt will see this project's completion. That is the main reason for this log, to keep me focused and motivated !
So I will update this space with ideas on the background for the force, conversions and hopefully some painted miniatures. Might also add some terrain. Please feel free to comment and give me your input.
[BACKGROUND] Straight Dark Angels were not possible (fluff pun intended), as I wanted my bikes green like mine and my bolters anything but red ! Next step was to find a name for my new chapter. A cool and evocative name. One with angels of something would be great. Angels of vengeance, absolution and redemption were already used for unforgiven chapters with colour schemes that didn't suit me. I thought of angels of penance, expiation, castigation or prosecution, and finally Judas Priest came to my rescue with the Angels of Retribution \m/. Also bonus point, the cover of the album will make a great company or chapter banner if I want to train my freehand skills:
So then they needed a base of operations, either a fleet or a homeworld. I went for the latter, a small planet of Segmentum Obscurs by the name of Sidero VII, some light years away from the ruins of Caliban. A bit more on the history of the chapter in a subsequent post.
[ORGANISATION] Well the Angels of Retribution follow most of the Dark Angels structure with the exception of the third company akin to the ironwing of old, which includes most of the chapter's motor pool and whose captain is the Master of the Forge. Companies are numbered with roman numerals and are as follows:
I-Similar to the deathwing (looking for a similar "wing name" if you have any), but due to fewer terminator suits also has vets; company color is bone white and symbol the broken sword.
II- Ravenwing like (swordwing might be a good replacement) but in regular DA green, winged sword symbol.
III- Steelwing: an armored assault company with tanks and razorback/rhino infantry support. Badge is a silver shield with bone white wings.
IV, V, VI- Main battle companies with codex structure and bone/green badge, DA symbol with bone wings and silver sword.
VII, VIII, IX- Reserve codex companies (tactical, assault, devastator) with green/bone badge, DA symbol with bone wings and silver sword..
X- Scouts green color, DA symbol with silver sword and without the wings, they obtain them when they become a full marine.
[MODELS]
Starting with the scouts, I went for astartes helmets as Sidero VII has some harsh conditions (arid with low oxygen). Also I think they look meaner that way.
Here you can see the wingless shoulder pads.
On the other side you have the squad number.
That's all for the first log. Feel free to comment and make any suggestions, thanks for reading.

I like the bases you're using for your units too, do you make them yourself?
They are basically an old CD with a thin layer of styrofoam and some cutouts for the unit's bases. Then just texture and flock to your taste. My whole army will have this red sand and rocks or pieces of ruin from the COD buildings.
