    "Generic" 28mm sci-fi figures

There seem to be many more manufacturers of miniatures than I had thought! And they seem to come and go?

I was wondering what firms manufacture a variety of figures which are not intended for any specific game or set of rules, including civilians, alien animals, and so on as well as sci-fi military miniatures.

    thanks

Hasslefree, Heresy are the two that come to mind immediately.
Copplestone castings also (there WAS a set of rules for the minis he did for Grenadier back in the 80s/90s, and though his current stuff is similar to much of it, they don't currently have a set of rules attached).

Thanks! They're all a bit on the cartoon side compared to the Infinity miniatures, but still, just the kind of thing I'm looking for.

There's also Antenocitis workshop's Governance of Technology line (sort of follows some of the same aesthetics as Infinity, without the overly fan-service look.)

There's also the Street Violence range from Wargames Foundry, Crooked Dice Games and Rogue Miniatures. As for animals, look at some of the beasties from World of Twilight (sold through Hasslefree).

There's also Defiance Games sci fi troopers as well if you want to go down that route.

Hasslefree WILL stop producing the Twilight range shortly - the original creator now has an alternate producer arranged - and the Hasslefree stock of the twilight stuff will be going on sale in the near future to assist in clearing the stock (I get their updates on FB).

There's also Reaper Miniatures. I know most of their stuff is fantasy, but they do have the Chronoscope line that's a mix of sci-fi and modern. They probably have some other models scattered throughout.

Zombiesmith has some aliens, and then there is...forget the name, Something Bounty...they do a sci-fi game and a Weird War II game...AE Bounty.

You might also consider looking at the line up of a BIG online retailer like Noble Knight or FRP Games. You can use the search to find stuff from dozens of small companies and then go from there.

For SF civilians, Antenociti's is pretty much the best source, especially for running alongside Infinity minis. Although also note that the new Infinity book is now on pre-order and early adopters get a civilian journalist mini (GoGo Marlene) with their order.

The IMEF miniatures from Reaper are very nice looking. Also check out Statuesque Miniatures, who do a lovely pulp/SF style mostly focussing on shmexy (but not gratuitous... well, not very gratuitous) ladies. Also, for generic SF infantry, don't miss the Kickstarter from Dreamforge. I'm not all that fussed for the massive Leviathan, but the plastic Eisenkern troopers look fantastic!

    Re: "Generic" 28mm sci-fi figures

Space Vixens From Mars is a comic/wargame with an accompanying miniatures line, but the majority of the figures would be fine generic sci-fi characters (leaning towards cartoony/cheesy old-school sci-fi and with some "not-Star Trek" aliens)

Victory Force has a few generic sci-fi ranges (Victorybots and Aurora) and also some "not-Star Trek" figures, mostly humans in their case.

In addition to Defiance's marines and bugs, War Games Factory has the sci-fi greatcoats.

Scotia Grendel carries both Kryomek and void miniatures, so while not truly "generic" they are from out of print games and the humans especially would make fine generic marines/troopers.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

Yep, the Eisenkern Stormtroopers of Dreamforge look like they will come out spectacular, if a bit pricey (though not compared to GW) - but probably worth the money. Take the link up their to the Kickstarter to decide for yourself.
Cheaper alternatives are Shock troopers from WGF and Corporates from Mantic, though these come with a game system (that can be ignored). The Hasslefree Grymn, already mentioned, are also a spectacular line.

    Re: "Generic" 28mm sci-fi figures

Wow, thanks everybody. There is far more out there than I thought! I'm not playing Infinity BTW, it's just that those are the most elegant looking miniatures I've seen from the limited selection where I live, and I did get a box of them. But, for the game I'm making with my young son, not any commercial game.

I had to look up "fan-service".

The Eisenkern toopers are gorgeous- I'm tearing out my hair because I'm owed a significant (for my extremely modest "lifestyle") amount of money and would love to pledge, but knowing how things usually go...

    Re: "Generic" 28mm sci-fi figures

Well, the target has already been reached and broken, and the stretch goal - for the accessory sprue - has also been reached. So, I've thrown my hat into that particular ring. For $46 I get 20 troopers and the accessory sprue (which includes three mule transports!), including international packaging. Now I just have to clear my plastic/metal mountain between now and November!

You could add $36 for a set of support weapons. Not cheap, but they look to be worth it.

Yeah, they will most likely unlock aswell, think $36 for a box of 3 heavy weapon teams is reasonable, especially considering they have 3 crewmembers compared to the 2 from GW. IT's a shame I already have allt he infantry guard I need, otherwise I would have gotten a few aswell, now I'll stick to the titans they have.
