    RIP Tony Scott

It's been announced that English director Tony Scott has committed suicide.

    Taken from the BBC Website:

Hollywood director Tony Scott, famous for films including Top Gun, has died after jumping from a bridge in Los Angeles, authorities have said.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office said Scott's death was being investigated as a suicide.

British-born Scott, brother of Alien director Ridley, shot to fame in the 1980s with a string of action films.

The 68-year-old's films included Crimson Tide, Days of Thunder and True Romance.

He also directed Enemy of the State and Beverly Hills Cop II.

It's a shame, I was a fan of quite a few of his films, and he did become known for a lot of "summer blockbusters". One of my earliest memories of watching a film was Top Gun, I love Man on Fire, and True Romance is a bit of a cult classic for me. He was also a bit of a "local boy" following his time at Hartlepool College of Art.

Tis a great shame. I was discussing on Saturday night just how awesome Top Gun still is...

    Hopefully at peace now.

I was shocked when I saw this on the news this morning. He and his brother are true greats. I must be one of the few people to have never seen Top Gun but True Romance, Enemy of the State and Crimson Tide are great movies. He will be missed

It appears this may be related to a medical diagnosis rather than depression. Sad news.

I know it's daft, but I love Top Gun. Crimson Tide and True Romance were other highlights for me. RIP Tony Scott.

I too was shocked when I heard the sad news of Tony Scott's death this morning. He'll be remembered for Top Gun, True Romance, Beverly Hills Cop 2 Crimson Tide and other summer blockbusters. But he also directed numerous successful tv adverts and together with his brother, Ridley invested in the film and tv industry in the UK and USA.

    Tony Scott RIP

I have heard that the family is denying the brain cancer diagnosis. We will probably never know why.

Either way, he was a surprisingly prolific director, and he will be missed by many.
