Dettol and Finecast - Paint stripping

So, I sprayed a Warrior priest and Halbert regiment I'd recently completed with some new white army painter spray paint and it has totally ruined the models leaving them in a layer of frost. This is definitely the last time I will be using White primer after it constantly ends up running my models.

I've stripped both metal and plastics with Dettol before and was woundering if I'd be able to use the stuff on the Finecast warrior priest as well with out it ruining the model.

I normally submerge the models in the Dettol for 24 hours, scrub with a tooth brush then rince in warm water. With this be fine on the warrior priest?

    Thanks for the help,
    AC

I am fairly certain I've heard of Finecast being softened (permanently) by Dettol. Test on a piece of spruce or off cut first.

I've heard that too. I'm always hearing tales about people not being able to strip finecast.

Now, riddle me this: bad quality material, or evil marketing ploy?

Sadly no questions needed there - it is clearly both. It instantly kills the second hand market as few would willingly pay for one put up on ebay (why is it being sold? Is it no longer wanted or was it crap to begin with?) and the stripping process leaves it a wibbling puddle of goo* The material itself may not be horrific, but the inability of GW to make a good cast out of it certainly makes it seem terrible.

Just a moment, I use dettol on FW resin. I would not leave it for more than 3hrs though. It will soften thin spindly pieces (swords etc) but they can be replaced.

I am unsure as to whether FW and finecast use a different resin, or resin mix as I've never bought a finecast model I am unable to speculate to that extent.

It's worth a test, I don't use 100% dettol, I usually add some water to solution.

Yes, it is. I think she's absolutely brilliant. Like a German Boris Johnson.

OT: I had a friend put some finecast sprue in some fairy power spray. Oh lord. Oh, dear holy lord. I would definitely give it a miss for stripping.

I can't see finecast surviving the "scrubbing" part, either.

Bizarre, I've used Fairy Power Spray on Forgeworld resin (Dread Plasma Cannon arm) without problems. GW must be going out of their way to make Finecast poor quality

Am I the only one who's curious as to why the white spray formed a layer of frost? I've used the Army Painter white basecoat spray quite a few times (on plastic, metal and FW resin; but not Finecast) and never had trouble.

Definately don't scrub the fine cast as even rubbing the stuff will take the detail off, I would sugest using power spray on some test sprue first to see how it reacts.

The white spray frosting is usually caused by not agitating the can enough, or by weather conditions (very humid, or cold.) It can also happen if the can has been left sitting for years on end. I've had it happen on a couple of occasions with white spray of various brands

Just for the record - I used to have alot of problems with my Skull white spray (it would not stick to the models etc) but when I started washing my models before I sprayed them (I left them to soak in soap for about 10 minutes, before I dried them) it solved my undercoat problems.
