Thread: Two pistols equal to CCWs?

    Two pistols equal to CCWs?

Sorry for the miss spelling in the headline.

A model carrying two pistols can fire both in the shooting phase. And pistols count as additional close combat weapons, right? But can a model claim an additional close combat attack cause he or she's carrying for example two plasma pistols?

    simple answer is yes
Ultramarines, I hate them... I want those smug SMurfs to sizzle in the deepest pits of hellish agony with assorted deamons taking turns doing horribly painful, humiliating and degrading things to them.

No objections? :-) Not that I can kill anything anyway as we're talking ig sergeants now. But thus dual wielding thing, is it a 6th edition thing. Could you fire two pistols simultaneously in 5th?

Only seraphim, and only in the WD codex (prior to that they treated their pistols as twinlinked).

it's more for looks, but yeah double shots and count as two close combat weapons.

Two pistols is two CCW so yes you get the attacks.

Now I'll be banned for discussing tactics in a rules thread. But do you think the twin plasma pistols are a sound choice for any character?

I mean for an IG veteran sergeant with good bs and a decent armour save (if upgraded) it sounds kind of nice. One extra terminator killer round, and another chance of a precision shot. I mean he can't fight anyway so close combat upgrades seems less necessary.

I have my techmarine with servoharness a mastercrafted plasma pistol. Works fine, and he wrecks people who try to charge him.

Yeah GW got rid of the *two special* close combat weapon rule. All weapons with a Melee profile stack and give you a bonus attack unless it's a Specialist weapon. So something like two pistols or a power axe+power sword stack now. You just choose which is being used for your actual attacks. The pistol rules in the BRB also clearly state that all pistol weapons are close combat weapons.

Funny thing about this is that you can now dual-wield Thunder Hammers. Not that you would ever want to do so, but Thunder Hammers are Specialist Weapons, and not two-handed.

Yeah. I was assuming everyone knew specialists stack with specialists. A powerfist/TH plus a lightning/wolf claw have some possibilities costs aside.

As long as I've been playing (3rd edition+), you could always dual-wield thunderhammers, but 5th edition was the only edition where it made any sense at all. Before 5th edition, you could get an extra attack by pairing it with any close combat weapon, even a bolt pistol. In 6th edition, you can get the extra attack by pairing it with any specialist weapon, notably a lightning claw. There's no tactical advantage to dual-wielding thunderhammers. (Looks cool, though.)

I used to post links to my Plogs, battle reports and other gubbins here, but now I have too many projects for the URL's to fit, so now I'll just bring you this message.

Well, it's more points than a plasma gun without the 24" shot. So, it's definitely no gimme. But if you're already packing 3 plasma guns in a veteran squad, it's not a terrible upgrade.

But come on, back to the question. Would you do it? I mean, you don't have to dual wield the lethal plasma pistols. As a veteran sergeant you have the mind bogging opportunity to upgrade to a set of two nickel-plated bolt pistols for just 4 pts. <sarcastic grin>

I've seen a few sisters players take them, but sisters pay 50% more for their pistols because Cruddace only spent 5 minutes writing the dex, so it's a bit of a downer.

And for some obscure reason the option chart for the dual pistol-wielding seraphim is specifically written to prevent their squad leader from doing it ...while every other squad leader in the entire dex has the option

Seems like a much more reasonable choice for ig in that case. Except they're less likely to survive plasma burns.

This follows the normal rules for shooting.
