Thread: What's the fluffliest/Most well done Codex out? What are the best balanced units?

My votes for Dark Eldar, or Daemons.

Orks IMHO are pretty shoddy as far as codices go. It's uninspiring, limiting, and full of units or options that are in dire need of fixing (i.e. Zzap Guns). The rules didn't even stand up to the test of 5th ed without a hefty pile of arguments to prompt the dev-team to respond on major game-breaking issues (seriously, 2 freaking years to get a deffrolla clarification). There were even numerous typos, errors, and errata fixes within the codex's initial 6 months of release! And that's saying nothing of the clans being reduced to color schemes with barely a paragraph of background each, certain units becoming suspiciously similar to Craftworld Eldar aspect squads, and the army as a whole moving away from a CC focus and becoming an "always strikes last" army. I often find myself wondering if the players who praise the Ork codex are actually aware of what Orks were like prior, or the plethora of design problems.

Lol, there should be a Trollface emote for this and this alone.

Going with the flow with DE and Orks. Internal balance is what sells a codex for me. If you can take what you want and still have a viable army, that's it. DE are probably best, but as said Orks get the mention of being one of the best-balanced so much time after the writing. Very few useless units.

With both those armies, make a list is awful. So many options that I want to include that I pull my hair trying to decide who to sacrifice.

Necrons are pretty good too. More useless units but still has a variety of viable builds with the ones that work. IG & BA somehow too.

Imperial Guard in my opinion, they play just like you'd imagine them. I like armies that play "fluffily".

Well, as far as I know no IG company ever combined mechanized infantry, artillery and "air cavalry", and all three were supposedly quite rare with irreplaceable technology being lost with every battle, but you wouldn't know it from many TT lists .

True, but your typical army list probably doesn't represent a single company, but a main force (mechanized or not) supported by elements from artillery and air support companies.

Not to derail the thread, but where did you get the idea that artillery or mechanized infantry are lost technologies? Chimeras, most Leman Russ designs, earth shakers are all mass produced on forge worlds.
