    1500 Semi-Competitive Empire

    Fantasy Army: Empire
    28/08/12 LIST UPDATED

This is designed to be a semi competitive empire with a bit of everything in it.

    Lords

    Arch Lector (General)
    Heavy armour, Enchanted shield, dawnstone

Battle Wizard Lord Lore of light
    Dispel Scroll, Crown of command

    Heroes

    Captain
BSB, Standard of discipline, full plate armour, shield

    Core

    x30 Halberdiers
    Full Command
    Detachments
    x15 Swordsmen
    x10 Handgunners

    Special

    x20 Greatswords
    Full Command

    x3 Demigryph knights
    Full command, steel standard

    Rare

    Celestial Hurricanum

    Total 1491

The arch lector goes with the greatswords and the other two characters with the halberdiers, this way all the infantry is ld9, stubborn and with break the line in one case and with careful placement re rolls and +1 to hit. The lore of light covers some of the initiative issues and is an alright jack of all trades lore. The demigryph knights cover the weaker flank. Pretty straight forward in my opinion.

    What do you think?!

    It's not a toy! It's a premium-quality finely-detailed platinum-priced collectors' item! (sorry, couldn't resist)

I would drop the crown of command on the wizard. If you're worried about being beat in combat, then you should also be worried about your wizard being killed, which would cause you to lose stubborn. It'd be safer to add more bodies and try for steadfast.

    Re: 1500 Semi-Competitive Empire

I would drop command on the Gryphs and upgrade Lord to Level 4, remove crown and trade for talisman of protection for 4++ ward save.

You can take lore of light - but personally I'm all for the Lore of beasts because:

    1) The new finecast model is amazing!!!!
    2) +1 strength and toughness is huge
    3) I can buff all my characters for either their toughness or add strength/attacks
    4) Portable cannon magic missile - the Amber spear - which on the lower casting is a spear chucka and the higher level is an Empire Cannon
    5) Transform, if in a dire situation, to a nasty monster like a mountain Chimera
    6) Make the enemy -1 to hit/shoot you - HUGE when you're at the all important combat!

I would also see if I had 10pts to give someone the shrieking blade - causing fear is overlooked - but one single failed fear test per game and now the enemy needs 5's to hit you - spell them and it's 6's!!! That is game turning moment right there!!

I think this is a very effective, small Empire army and im sure i will be adding some of these units to my 7000 point army. Thanks!

This s4 t4 state troops and s6 great swords yes please, re-roll to hit due to hatred and if you can get the buff for wounding state troops become horrendous to fight!! Would take more great swords if you can find the points, asl means that enemy cc elites can blow through this unit rather easily.

    Re: 1500 Semi-Competitive Empire

Taking into account your suggestions I have changed my list accordingly. Justifications after the list...

    Lords

    Arch Lector (General)
    Heavy armour, Enchanted shield, dawnstone

    Heroes

    Captain
BSB, Standard of discipline, full plate armour, shield

    Warrior Priest
Heavy Armour, Shield, Crown of Command

Battle Wizard Lord Lore of Beasts
    Dispel Scroll, Lvl 2

    Core

    x30 Halberdiers
    Full Command
    Detachments
    x15 Swordsmen
    x10 Handgunners

    Special

    x20 Greatswords
    Full Command

    x3 Demigryph knights
    Full command, steel standard

    Rare

    Celestial Hurricanum

    Total = 1495

So I've added a Lvl 2 beasts as was suggested and a warrior priest to join the halberdier unit so the wizard will be safe in the second rank. The crown of command stays as it means the detachments will be stubborn should they get charged; this way chances are they won't flee and the big unit of halberdiers can flank charge. I think having an extra warrior priest is better than buying a ward save for the wizard.

    How's this looking now?

Looks pretty good, although personally-speaking I prefer the Lore of Life in an Empire army. Other than that, though, the only real weakness is the lack of a fighty character. I don't know what your meta is like, but I would definately use the spare 5 points to invest in a cheap magic sword, just in case you find yourself up against Ethereal enemies. It takes a long time to chew through 3 spirit horde bases on combat res alone!

    Re: 1500 Semi-Competitive Empire

I like it - it's got flavor - Its a balance between 2 priests or a level 4- and that's a call you only make after playing a few games with the army.

On the one hand the 2nd priest sure does come in handy - but a level 4 sometimes gives you that edge - for e.g. the peace of mind of having 4 spells so you'll always gt one you need...

Try it out and see how it goes

    Re: 1500 Semi-Competitive Empire

I like the list. I like to run my block as swordsmen with their detachment as Halberdiers though. But Warrior Priests and Captains are just such a steal for their points and what they can provide that having at least 1 of each is definitely a good idea.
