Anything you like: Graxy paints everything!

After having a few other plogs on wasee, I wanted to post a bit more to them but really had no motivation to, with other restrictions such as school and depression not helping. After a fair bit of thinking, I realised that one of the main resons that I didn't feel the motivation to paint is that I don't have the focus to stick to painting one thing, and easily got distracted by other pretty models or conversion ideas. So now I've started this plog, where I can post literally anything I want whenever I want, and not feel restricted to focusing on one specific army. That's not to say that there won't be any work done to models from my other plogs (mainly since I closed them both), so you may see some dark elves or high elves every now and then. Or wood elves. Or empire. Or beastmen. Or anything! That's the beauty of this plog!

To start of with, I'm going to put oup some pictures of some WIP character models hat I had lying around:



And of course, my favourite model GW has made to date (Be'Lakor can suck it )


Well basically, all of he models here (with the exceptionn of krell, who despie being bought on release day, was started fairly recently) were started a while ago but kind of put to the side due to my short attenton span, but I intend to get them all finished, hopefully all within this week, although krell might take a bit longer due to the awesome amount of detail on him.

And a WIP unit of khorne warriors that I've been working on:


Pretty much WYSIWYG, quite a bit sstill left to be done, and a couple bits I missed out innitially, such as the boots on the 2nd from the left warrior in the first picture, and a couple bits to be touhed up on, like the marks of khorne spread out amongst the armour,, but they're getting there.

Next post will be in a day or two, not sure if I'm going to re-post old pictures or progress on new/WIP things, but there will be something, I can assure you that.

QUICK QUESTION: Could somebody tell me ho to enlarge the pictures in my posts, just for the convienience of anyone reading them? It would be very appreciated

Well, after yesterday, I actually decided to continue on krell before finishing any of the others. He compelled me. No-where near finished, but I did most of the bone and the rusty metal, so I'd say He's about 60% done:


Had a few problems taking pictures of him for some reason, but this gives a rough idea on progres. Sorry for ridiculous brightness on the first pic.

I htought there was no real point in just posting these pics of krell, so I decided to put up some pics of a WIP converted unit:

As one of my many WoC proucts, I've started to make some screamer knights. Right now, they're very early on in production. Each knight will have chains attatched to his screamer (haven't decided wether to tie around horns or to green stuff it to look like it's going through the flesh of the screamers), whether hee'll be holding the chains, or having them attatched to his shield at the centre of the eye on the mark of tzeentch that will be on his shield. I'm aiming to make 8-10 of these and most likely will post any developments on them here, so stay tuned if you're interested. Not too fussed about mixing material screamers since the new ones are bloody massive, so ranking up is a pain in the ass, but hopefully I can make this not so much a problem when making the height of the stands for the rest of them.

Well, had some plans today, but they were cancelled, so I decided to pop down to my LGS and pick up a box of these bad boys:


Not to make ironguts though, no that would be too simple. These are to make some nurgle chaos ogres. I decided to take pics of my progress on the first one as I went along. NOTE: This is my first real time going big on green stuff, but I'm fairly pleased with the outcome considering that.



Well, the ordering of all the pictures got screwedup entirely and there's not much I can do to rectify that, but it's pretty obvious as to what the intende order was. I still need to touch up on the banner a bit (I was aiming to make it look like the mark of nurgle on page 11 of the WoC book). This took about 5/6 hours and still needs a bit of work, so I'll probably finish thi up, paint it (while painting other things), then get started on the next.

Well, I changed my mind again and decided to make up another ogre (after finishing up the banner), and got absolutely no painting done at all. In my defence though, this took 5 bloody hours of straight work and I'm a lot more pleased with this result than the other ogre:


I went for giving him armour almost identical to a chaos warrior's armour (with the exception of the beer belly and a bit of a different helmet). The fur was a pain in the ass, and getting he chainmail in place wasn't exactly pleasant, but it's done now, he's going to be my unit champ, and there's no way in hell I'm going to be going for the same look on any of the other 2. Here's comparing him to a normal chaos warrior:

After the ast post today, I found myself with nothing better to do but start on the next ogre, the musician. I wanted to go fairly simple on him, just to add a bit of a mix to the unit. No real probems getting him together, just a few gaps I'm going to have to fill later (such as the right arm joint), but in any case here he is:

I have literally no ideas for the last one.

Great conversion! I like the cloak a lot .. I find it hard to make cloth or similar from green stuff ..

@Localicious: Thanks mate, surprisingly, the cloak wasn't thehard part on him, the ridiculou amount of fur was I think I might have went a bit OTT on it, but hey, I can't really do much about it now. I'm going down to my LGS tomorrow, where I'll hopefully get a start on the unit champ, ,I just have no idea how I'll make whit armour... nurgely (needs to be white to fit in with the rest of the army), but I'll ross that bridge when I get to it Also, liking your O&G and dwarfs, especially your black... I mean... Red Orcs

For today's update, it's only a small one, since it was pretty much my day off of adoing anything today, so I only got a bit of painting done.

Krell finished, with everything but the rim on the base and the trophy rack:

Really like your Krell. It's a great model and that rust effect you have done on the armour looks brilliant.

Krell is looking great. The armour is really nice. The Ogres are coming along nicely too. For first greenstuffing, they're exceptionally good. If you'd like some advice on making armour plates, I've got a tutorial on it over in my blog! It's all about going back after it's dry to cut and file the greenstuff down to get flat pieces and crisp edges.

@Lew_b81: Cheerss mate I remember that when I was doing the ogres, I'd looked through your blog a few days before and was kind of doing everything off memory from the tutorial on it, I just ended up forgetting everything (silly me ). I think I might actually re-do the banner bearer entirely, since I don't really feel it's up to standard, but I'm not sure whether to start a new model entirely or just remove the greenstuff from the current one and re-do that. In any case, Next time I will be looking at your tutorial when doing it

Today's proper update will be later when I actually feel like taking the pictures for it. What will actually be in it will be the finished picture of krell, a small update on the screamer knights and a picture of the WIP paintjob on the ogre champion (I'm really not too certain how I feel about it so far I think it's a bit sub-par, but we'll see how it ends up).

As promised, here's today's actual post! In order given, let's start with the sreamer knights:


Need to touch up on the green stuff on the shield, but this gives a general idea of the looks of models going on in the unit

Next up: Finished krell. There's very little difference in the last pictures and him, but the trophy rack is done, so that's complete:



Might look a little bit glossy in this pic, that's because I had to use hot water to bend the axe back in place, after it had bee bent in my case.

And last but not least: The iffy WIP chaos ogre champion. My main problems are the white armour and the cloak, but I've kind of come around to it. I might do more to them, I might not, we'll see how it goes:



A fair bit left needed to be done. And it will be done, or my name isn't Graxy.

Today's update is a fairly depressing one. I've removed the chainmail on the standard bearer and replaced a few pieces of the armour plates but it wa a bit of a rush job and isn't looking great. I'll probably replace him at some point in the future, but for now he'll have to do.



Also replaced the stomach spew with the one from the troll kit. Unlike some others, I'm not opposed to re-using parts that are not in use any more, and it looks muh better than the crappy bit of green stuff I had there before.

And for the last ogre in the box, I decided what to do with him. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the standard dragon ogre conversion that we've all seen several times!:


As I said before, pretty standard.

As for what's coming next, I've started to make progress on the dwarf BSB, but I didn't really feel it was significant enough progress to bother posting pictures.

And to make the post have a bit more meaning, I've decided to show the two bad boys I bought today to add to the list of things that need painting for the sake of it:


Looking back at the rest of the thread so far, I've realised that this plog dedicated to "everything" is heading very quickly towards being a WoC plog with a bit of other things added in. I'm going to try and cut back on the chaos updates from now on (despite them being my main right now) . I'll still make some progress on them and you will most likely be seeing more chaos than anything on these first few pages of the plog, but the frequency of chaos updates from now on will be decreased quite a bit.

Fairly boring update today again. Dwarf BSB almost done, just need to touch up on a few bits and do the rim on his cape interior:


Also started on the wood elf. When I started on him, I realised that I actually had to pick one of the seasons, and this to me was madness. Looking at my options, I thought "Winter is overdone as hell, spring is the army book colour, and I live in england, so summer doesn't exist to me. Autumn it is!" So the model is going to be a very orangey brown with a bit of red and yellow throughout. I decided to try out a non metallic scheme on him, since I'd never tried before. Unfortunately, the only online guides I found were using discontinued paints that I don't have Either way, gave it a shot, I experiment with basically all of the painting techniques to get good at them anyway, so why not on this! Made with what I had and went on. Not as pleased as I thought I would be


Pretty slow start to him, but 'll get him done eventually

Shortest update so far today (partially from me reading Valkia for half the day, partially from me being a slow painter), but here it is anyway!

Finished off the wood elf, might be a tiny detal here and there missing that if I notice, I'll be sure to go oer it, but otherwise complete:


Firstly, distance picture was a failed upload which I'll probably fix when making tomorrow's post.

Secondly, I actually really enjoyed painting this. Unlike the dwarf BSB, where it just kind of felt like a time filler, I was painting this because I felt motivated to. Because of this, I think I might pick up another WE character or 2, just to paint, and see where it goes from there


EDIT: Actually, looking at the pics now, there's a fair few parts that I missed out on, which I'll sort out whenever I get the chance.

His brown/yello armor is really cool! How did you paint it? (with a brush.. n1 Loca.. ) I mean which colors n stuff

Well it actually was a failed experiment at non-metallic gold, but I think I like it enough to use that as leather armour from now on. It was pretty simle really, just:

1. Base Dark Flesh
2. Layer Snakbite leather
3. Paint a little bit of bubonic brown at one end (depending on what angle you are workng the light from)
4. Blend a little towards the centre with mixes of Bubonic brown and snakebite leather
5. Golden yelloy the other end (Although I would recommend a better stand alone yellow, since GY is quite weak by itself)
6. Highlight the edges with any yellow lighter than golden yellow (Or whateer yellow used)
7. After realising that this does not look good as not metallic gold, wassh i with reikland/ogryn flesh, because the flesh washes make literally anything look better

It should work as well using whatever the substitute i for each of these colours is, since the new paints are literally just as good as the old ones. Just look at the paint conversion chart which each LGS has to find out what's what iff you don't have any of them.
