    Spraying Flying Bases

    Hi,
I wanna know if you undercoat the bases as well?

I want my bases to remain transperant. I wait your suggestions how to undercoat models without spraying the bases.

P.S. I have FW Tau Fleet.

Tooth pick, blue tack, carboard surface, stick tooth pick in cardboard, use blue take to temporarily stick the ship to the toothpick, apply spray.

Or you know just lay the ships down and do each side separate.

Yeah I generally spray the bases black when I undercoat the model itself. I suppose if you want to leave the base transparent, you could always mount the model on some wire or something for spraying and then attach to the base? If wire is too fiddly, maybe a wooden dowell with a bit of blu tac on the end.

Do not attach them to the bases. Best solution.

I have a set of bases i use as just paint stands, for base coating i use these for the top/sides and a 2 foot brass dowel to get the bottoms. You could easily build a paint stand using a dowel and some scrap wood.

I just lay the models down and spray both sides one after the other.

Call me old-fashioned, but you could always just use a brush...

I like to paint most models with the base inserted, then paint over it at the end. Black bases with stars added afterwards.... looks the cleanest to me.

One way I have done it is to glue the model to the base, then wrap some masking tape around the stem while painting. I did the base black with stars and the ship's name painted on, then after it was all finished and varnished the tape comes off to give a clear stem. Nowadays I just tend to paint the whole thing before gluing the base though.
