Necorns 1500 points (Zahndrekh and Obyron list)

    40K Army: Necrons
Wanted to make a list that was a little different from most of the necron lists that I've seen on the forum recently.

What I really wanted to do was make a list based around Nemesor Zahndrekh and his ever loyal bodyguard Vargard Obryon. Although I have a feeling that these two HQ choices maybe a little expensive in a 1,500 point list, I wanted to take advantage of the rule synergy.

The general idea of the list is to utilize of Zahndrekh's phased reinforcement rule to get my models on the board quickly while using other army choices such as the scythe, the veil and the ghostwalk mantle to keep the list manuverable.

I would love to hear what the community thinks. Although I choose most of the units because I like them, it would be good to know what everyone thinks about the army's competative edge. Thanks in advance for all the help and comments.

    HQ

    NECRON NEMESOR ZAHNDREKH
Equipment: Phase Shifter, Resurrection Orb, Sepiternal weave, Staff of Light,
Adaptive Tactics, Counter Tactics, Phased Reinforcements,

I can start with the Immortals in the Night Scythe in order to deploy as far forward as possible to take advantage of Obyron’s ghost walk mantle and the lack of scatter. Will also use his ability to grant and/or take away special rules where appropriate.

    VARGARD OBYRON
Equipment: Ghostwalk mantle, Sempiternal weave, Warscythe, Cleaving Counterblow, Vargard’s duty

I chose this character because I really like the Ghostwalk mantle and because he can potentially be a close combat monster. While I wish he had the mind shackle scarabs, I think he can manage without them in most circumstances.

    ROYAL COURT
CRYPTEK # 1: Harbinger of Despair
Equipment: Abyssal Staff, Veil of Darkness

Depending on the opponent, I can either attach the harbinger cryptek to the Deathmarks to take advantage of the Hunters from Hyperspace rule, or I can move a troop choice around.

CRYPTEK # 2: Harbinger of storm
    Equipment: voltaic staff

He'll attach to whatever troop choice looks like its on vehicle duty.

    HQ TOTAL: 430

    ELITES

    DEATHMARKS #1
Equipment: Snyaptic Disintegrator, Deep Strike, Ethereal Interception, Hunters from Hyperspace,

Need them in order to kill monsterous creatures or nasty close combat units.

    ELITES TOTAL: 95

    TROOPS

    15 NECRON WARRIORS
    Equipment: Gauss Flayer,

I wanted a big unit of warriors in case I wanted to take advantage of Oberon’s mantle or a veil.

    10 NECRON IMMORTALS
    Equipment: Gauss Blaster,
    NIGHT SCYTHE

    Mobile troop choice

    9 NECRON IMMORTALS
    Equipment: Gauss Blaster,

I know that I needed a 3rd troop choice and I thought another squad of immortals would be safe. I’m open to suggestions If anyone has other ideas.

    TROOP TOTAL: 618

    HEAVY SUPPORT

    ANNIHILATION BARGE #1
Equipment: Twin-linked Tesla Destructor, Tesla Cannon, Quantum Shielding, Living Metal

Long distance light to medium vehicle and horde killing.

    ANNIHILATION BARGE #2
Equipment: Twin-linked Tesla Destructor, Tesla Cannon, Quantum Shielding, Living Metal

Long distance light to medium vehicle and horde killing.

    Doom Scythe
Equipment: Death Ray, twin-linked tesla destructor

    HEAVY SUPPORT TOTAL: 355

    GRAND TOTAL: 1498

Great... I managed to misspell the title of my post... probably speaks to the value of the list itself

Only things I'd change is having the immortals as footslogging and put some wraiths/ scarabs in as you don't have any close combat troops

Re: Necorns 1500 points (Zahndrekh and Obyron list)

    Thanks for the response RTB01.

You're right, I don't have any assault units in my list. Quite frankly, I haven't played 40k in a long time and didn't know what kind of state (meta) the game is in at the moment. I've heard that shooting has become very powerful in the new addition, and didn't know if I could skate by with just shooting units. Let me know if I'm wholly wrong in this thought process.

If I were to include an assault unit, how should I fit it in? If I'm reading your post right, you seem to suggest removing the Night Scythe. Am I correct in this assumption? With this 100 points, I could buy 6 scarab bases. Do you think that this throw away unit would be enough for most games or will I have to drop another 100 points to get a 5 man wraith squad with some whip coils. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I also had another question about one of my immortal squads. I didn't know if I should swap one of the units Guass blasters in favor of tesla. My understanding is that Guass is generally better because it can move and still shoot at 24 inches. I didn't know if anyone had an opinion as to whether the extra shots from a tesla gun were worth it.

Thanks in advance for all the comments and help.

Re: Necorns 1500 points (Zahndrekh and Obyron list)

Aside from wraiths, and maybe Ctan shards, Necrons don't do assault very well, I've used Lychguard (shield option) a little for some good results especially when combined with Obyron, using the ghostwalk mantle to get them around, but you're going to have to cut quite a bit out to fit them in. Lycheguard might be the best way to go given that you have selected Obyron. I'd look at whether you really need the veiltek as he's expensive, and while I know people who swear by Deathmarks I've never been very fond of them myself.

The real money CC unit is the full 6 wraiths + destroyer Lord, but you really have to build your list around that one.

Re: Necorns 1500 points (Zahndrekh and Obyron list)

Thanks for the input Spiney Norman. I think that you're right when you say that I would have to rebuild the list to support a unit of wraiths. I've tried constructing another list without assault units to see people respond differently. I think that my main problem has been my troop selection. Depending on what people think I may re write the whole let from the ground up starting with a 5 man wraith squad with 3 coils and then moving on from there. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Necorns 1500 points (Zahndrekh and Obyron list)

Last post about this list. Decided to take everyone's advice and put in an assault unit. I still have 30 points left over and didn't know what to do. The most obvious choices are

    1) buy 3 whip coils for the the 5 wraiths
    2) buy another Harbinger of despair
    3) Buy the anti vehicle harbinger and buy 1 gun for the wraiths

I'm open to any other ideas that anyone might have. Let me know what choice I should get and if you like this list better than the rest. Appreciate any and all help.

Re: Necorns 1500 points (Zahndrekh and Obyron list)

From those three options I would go with whip coils, the haywire tek is great but it's not like you are lacking anti-tank
