    Statement from Nike:

"Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him.

"Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner.

"Nike plans to continue support of the Livestrong initiatives created to unite, inspire and empower people affected by cancer."

If I was Lance and innocent I would fight tooth and nail to prove my innocence... That seems to be something he is not prepared to do....

What Nike does has nothing to do with whether he took drugs or not. All it means is they think the controversie means their product could do better for endorsements. Probably because he doesn't race they might have done that anyway.

He ceased to race in cycling events some years ago but competes in tri-athalons ie he still races. But now without Nike's sponsorship.

Most funny part is that big corporations and organisations have stuck with him for so long.
The writing has been on the wall for much, much longer than that..

As soon as he quit amid the allegations a few weeks/months back my alarm bells were ringing.

And now he's stripped of all his TdF titles. Good move, UCI.

Gotta pay back money from Tour De France victories, good coz that'll hurt him where it hurts the most. I'm surprised they don't do a top to bottom testing of illegal practises to purge any cheats. The sports image has taken a battering at the moment.

A lot of the more sophisticated banned practices are flat out impossible to test for these days.
As technology continues to develop, that's only going to become a more difficult situation.

Yeah, you can't just give everyone a single test and declare an all-clear.

    Well, to paraphrase one of the guys from the Daily Show;
"With his physique, conquering cancer and all, the question isn't if he doped or not, the question is, why aren't we all doping up?"
But seriously, it's not like he's the only guy doping up in cycling. They're all in it.

Maybe so, but 'Everyone else is doing it' is a poor excuse for cheating yourself.

    No they are not.

Team Sky has recently requested all their riders declare they never have and never will use performance enhancing drugs.

    Re: Lance Armstrong

As someone who is involved with cycling, having been around a British team for several years and being privy to speaking with numerous riders/teams through journalism I can categorically state that it's not possible under current scientific methods to get away with doping in modern cycling. Which is why people like Frank Schleck/Alberto Contador over the past couple of years have been caught and shot down while offering excuses. If you dope, you are caught. Armstrong and co. didn't get caught primarily because EPO testing was not available in mainstream cycling until 2000 (the Sydney Olympics) while the accusations that Armstrong covered up failed tests through various means are founded in truth. Quite frankly the testing system in the Armstrong era was rubbish, which is why all but one of the podium finishers in the Armstrong era have been connected to doping. Everyone DID it, but not anymore. It's too stringent and high tech to get away with it now.

Such declarations are useless wastes of breath, heck, Armstrong still declares that he has never used performance enhancing drugs.

Not when the declaration is a contractual obligation.

It's not useless from a legal point of view. By creating these forms Team Sky absolve themselves publicly in the event that any of their riders are caught doping in the future. If honest and legitimate it's an internal and external guard against encouraging those with the power to administer PED's doing so (like the infamous Dr. Ferrari). It also has the more subtle power of building a culture of positivity of Sky acting as a vanguard against doping, thus dispiriting people with links to doping approaching Team Sky for employment. if a rider wishes to dope he has to do it off his own back which holds inherent dangers in itself (there's a reason why injections in medicine should only be administered by trained professionals). It's actually quite a clever move.

Edit: Exactly right Wintermute. It provides a clear guideline for termination of contract and sacking if the declaration is ever breached.
