    Dark Mechanicus allies

    Hi All,

I'm adding a Dark Mechanicus allie of 600pt to my Chaos army (as a lot of people), however I will be using the Necrons Codex for my DM allies.

My list will be roughly an overlord, 2x5 warriors, 2x Nightscythes, 1x Doomscythes. I have planned DM representatives for the hq and warriors, however I can't think for the life of me what to build for the DM to represent the scythes?

Anyone have ideas or seen something done previous, a scythe sized DM flyer/skimmer.

I can't scratch build, but can converted.

    Cheers,

    Elvis

If you really wanted Dark Mechanicus, you could wait a month and get the 'proper' stuff - Smiths, Engines, Oblits, Maulers and Cultists as Skitarii. But, no offense, I gather you want Necron power over DM fluffiness.

Another guy adding "fluffy" allies to get access to power units. /le sigh

I, too, went for Dark Mechanicus as allies for my Iron Warriors warband.
However, I made unoriginal choice and took IG as posing skitarii and co.

On the note, I'm quite proud for my rough riders, skitarii riding scout bikes are just badass.

If you're trying to find an idea for a model after picking the unit, you're probably including said unit not for fluff purposes, but for power.

That said; Doom Wing and Fire Lord.

@OP: I think the Necron Scythe models are a good starting point for your purposes. Swap the pilot for a servitor, add some wires and gubbins to make it look more gothic, and replace the weapons with something more Imperial-looking (Chaos-looking?) like big plasma cannons with some extra stuff for the Doomscythe ray thing, and some quad autocannons for the tesla destructors.

    Re: Dark Mechanicus allies

When I first read the Necron codex back in 5th Edition my first thought was that it would be very suitable to use it for a Mechanicus army.

Especially the Triach Stalkers represent the crazyness of the Mechanicus quite nicely... and I believe there are even walker models out there suitable for them, which can be easily converted to dark mechanicus. Then they have the Ark variants which I imagined would be perfect to represent something similar to the great imperial space warships but in 28mm size... awesomeness!

The scythe variants however received a huge boost so you have to expect some comments about your intentions.

I'm not going to bother with Scythes in my Chaos Necron Allies (maybe a single nightscythe, if I can find a decent way of modelling it) there's so much other cool stuff you can take - the Triarch stalker as a walking Mechanicus engine, the Spyder as some sort of daemon engine, spawning tiny constructs and repairing vehicles, Barges as anti-grav skiffs - all much more interesting than a Scythe army

    Re: Dark Mechanicus allies

Necrons are perfect for a cyborg/archaeotech legion because hey they even imply that the Necrons have influenced the Admech!

Consider using Illuminor as your HQ, as he is more of a mechanical tinkering kind of guy than the Necron Overlord by himself. It's a shame Crypteks don't come as their own HQ though.

For your Night Scythe... why not use a Night Scythe and go from there?
Or use the space marine Storm Pigeon (that pudgy little helicopter thing they got) it is bout the right size

    Re: Dark Mechanicus allies

I'm going to be a tad unoriginal here to start with and suggest a Valkyrie or possibly even a Storm Raven or Storm Talon as a basis for said stand-in. Maybe even a Drop pod could be a decent starting point.
The Raven and a Valk are a little larger than than the Flying Croissant, the Talon possibly a bit smaller but with the way flyers work on the table, it's not really an issue how large/small they are by comparison. All are in the same vague ballpark. Also you could probably proxy in any of the Forgeworld flyers as equivalents. Avenger, Lightning, http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuf...E_FIGHTER.html, Arvus, Thunderbolt, Aquila

Alternatively, you could draw some inspiration from any number of flyer conversions available to peruse on the interwebs:-
    Like this and this.
And my personal favourite from the blogosphere Dave Taylor's Locust.

If none of that strikes your fancy, google up some concept images for aircraft (especially look for inspiration within dieselpunk) and see what floats your boat.

For me though Dark Mechanicus suggests an unholy union of warp energies and arcane machineries. Something like a scaled-up blight drone perhaps (Storm Talon as a base for it wouldn't be too hard). Alternatively, look at building a (relatively) huge flying servitor construct, something like the Flencer or ATAC could be the sort of thing that'll suit (just maybe add a bit more gribbliness). Something like this scaled up (perhaps using Tau tank "engines"?).
If you happen to be a god of modelling, I'd suggest making an Overlord Dropship. One of these days I will make a Helghast army....

If that little lot doesn't inspire you.... I dunno, make some weird geometric construct and say the rest of the craft exists in the warp?

Would you use IG, Tau, or Grey Knights as a base?

Now all we need are Rogue Trader and Sensei allied warbands.

Also, Commissar training battalions with Beastmen, Ogryn, Squats, Whiteshields, Robots and lots of Commissars in training.

    Hi gents,

Apologies for the delayed reply, it got deleted. @Still Standing, thanks for the useful comment, I'll take it onboard.

    Right, lots of good ideas, but to pick a couple;

@Lord Damocles: i like the two examples, however unfortunately my scratch building requires some work!

@Thud: I had thought of just converting the Necron model, makes sense, however (out to the public) would this fit with DM fluff?

@Chem-Dog: thanks for the examples, I like the Flencer, going to look at which 40k model I could convert into that look.

    @Panzerbunny: lol

    Right, now to think.....

    Re: Dark Mechanicus allies

What do people think to converting the triarch into a similar design to this: http://terminator.wikia.com/wiki/Flencer (cheers chemdog)

I would then represent it as a DM version of the scythe?

Will have to put an order in.

    Cheers guys,

    Elvis
