    2000K Tyranids - Mega Horde

    40K Army: Tyranids
I'll admit it straight away, I have been having trouble playing with Tyranids in 6th Edition.

With this in mind I sat down and with my Codex and tried to make a list that might work, for me, in this new edition.

And this is what I came up with. A few people might say it is spam, but I can honestly say this is is the most fluffy list I think anyone could write for Tyranids and with a bit of work, i could field this list:

Tervigon - Scything talons, Adrenal glands, Toxin sacs, Cluster spines, Catalyst.
Tervigon - Scything talons, Adrenal glands, Toxin sacs, Cluster spines, Catalyst.

    3 x Hive Guard
    3 x Hive Guard

Tervigon - Scything talons, Adrenal glands, Toxin sacs, Cluster spines, Catalyst.
Tervigon - Scything talons, Adrenal glands, Toxin sacs, Cluster spines, Catalyst.
    30 X Termagant
    30 X Termagant
    30 X Termagant
    30 X Termagant
    30 X Termagant
    30 X Termagant

The Army would just move up field as quickly as possible and just clog up the board, the enemy would literally drown under a sea of strength 3 poisoned attacks and only a dedicated gunline would be able to cause enough casualties to be a worry.

What about flyers or heavy armour? What about them? Just ignore them, and with that many strength 4 fleshborer attcks, I reckon you could bring a plane or two down. There is always the Impaler cannons to open rhinos and the such like.

My main concern is though, because I play friendly games, would it be fun to play against this list? What do people think?

    Cheers

Before I committ to buying anymore gaunts, I am wondering if this list would benefit from having a few Tervigons for extra synapse support. I would probably get two more troop choice Tervigons by dropping two squads of gaunts and two Hive Guard (putting them into two squads of two). What do people think?

This list would take forever to play against. Too many models to move/spawn. It would definitely be a no go in tourneys. You'd rarely finish a game. Heaven forbid you play vs multiple jaws...

I think it would be effective, but too unwieldy to play with/against. Its more models than the green tide...

That was something I did consider. Im trying to figure out a way of moving all those models quickly. Maybe some form of movement tray before they hit combat. Has anyone done anything similar with Gaunts, Orks or IG blobs?

I would love to play against this list. It has its flaws, but the main one is like someone said earliar what are you going to do against jaws? That just kills your list on the spot. How about that clensing flame?

Whilst Jaws would be a problem, SW are only one Army (but ther do seem to be a lot of them running around!!!! haha). The Rune Priests would become target 1, if I was ever to put this Army on the table.

Been looking online for round base movement trays to hopefully eleviate the problem of moving all those gaunts, until CC hit that is, haha.

Personally I'd drop the Hive guard and Tervigons and replace them with Primes and Adrenal glands for the Guants and a load of Gargoyles.
    something like
    4 Tyanid Primes
5* 20 Gargoyles with Adrenal Glands
    5 * 25 Guants

Gives you some more speed and it'd going to be very hard for your opponent to winkle out those primes.
If you keen to say with Tervigons for synapse, they yes I'd get a few more. 4 will get mowed down in 2-3 turns by most shooty 2k lists.

Re: 2000K Tyranids - Mega Horde

I played a guy (who moved away unfortunately) with a list that was similar to yours in fourth edition (obviously no hive guard or tervigons, carni's and tyrants instead) and I have to tell you, the most enjoyable games of 40k I've had to date. I played a grenadiers IG list (for you newbookers that's stormtroopers only, no platoons) and with the old allied grey knights (five termies led by their Brother-Captain). Every single one of those games we played almost always ended up with a turn 6 smash fest standing over an objective; always epic. He even played with the army in tournaments and rarely had to call time (he usually tabled opponents by about 3rd turn). In fact, since I'm on the subject, I won a tournament against him as the final match up and we played a full 6 turns. The key to staying fast is practice; he knew his army inside and out so he knew exactly where to go with them and when he deployed and did his movement phase; he hauled a** lol.
I guess this long soliloquy is my full support of you playing such a list. I just hope that you have as much fun as we did playing those games. My only concern is the day your list meets a psycannon spam list or manticore spam; I don't think you'll have too much fun there lol.

Re: 2000K Tyranids - Mega Horde

It's pretty fluffy for nids, just a big horde of small fries and a few big daddies to keep them company and replenish the swarm. Might be tiresome to play against but that's the only real negative I can think of right now.

Synapse is the big problem for your army. Tervigons are pretty tough but they still go down with enough firepower leveled at them. So basically the trick to this would be to take out 4 MC's and thus deny you synapse for your entire army. Then at Ld 5 you just plunk a few casualties on each squad and they run away.

I actually play a list much like this in 6th Edition.

Firstly; people in around here love playing against such a army, its a break from playing Meqs or flyer based lists, its nice to play against horde lists and hack away through so many; its an actual challenge to try to table such a list.

Secondly; its a spam list, but really; how else are you going to play Nidz effectively in 6th Ed? We have just a few really good units that can compete with top tier units. People will scoff at you for playing a 'weak codex' or scorn you for spamming if you play a stronger list type; its your choice.

Pure spam won't win you games by its self, you still need some support; i.e. some sort of back field disruption or long range help, maybe it might be as simple as Y.Stealers, but you'll need sort of disruption. You don't want armies castling up against you in a good position and grind to down with range advantage, think about what kind of support can disrupt back feild targets and fits into your game play.

This type of armylist works well for the simple reason that it can withstand casualities and still hold objectives or keep to the game winning conditions to win games. In-game tactics aren't about tabling the opponent or taking central control, they're all about target denial using cover saves and FnP and holding objectives defensively and understanding how best to position your units to get the most out of not only your shooting and assault phase, but more so about getting the most cover saves, buffs and support.

The big questions for you should be: how many gants is enough? and; Will a HT with OA bring out more in the list than a second HQ tervigon?

You may not need that much gants plain and simple. But thats up to your style of play and game testing.

A hive tyrant with OA is an amazing support unit for this type of list. OA + 60 gants = awesome, The unit can counter assault, HT + regen + Guard + FnP + cover makes him hard to rid of, which is good for targeting and tanking in coming fire, objective control, support buffs, HQ win conditions, points denial.

Hope this helps, sorry my english is not so good.

Actually I usually have quicker movement phases and deployment phase than most opponents with 140+ models.

I use metal movement trays the cover about 15 models and magnets on all my gaunts, I have a few smaller trays if I need to split iup the models for positioning. If your going to invest in 180+ gants don't do it without magnets.

Pfft to Jaws, its not something you have control over as a 40k nidz player. And really, it really effectives such a small scope of the games you play.

I love Horde list . This would look neat on the board and fun to face. You get the feeling of overwellming force running forth.
Only thing that is sad is all your friend will after facing/see this list bring large templates too the field .
