    How old were they ? I've heard varying statistics.

    Wiki says 18+, but I'd personally be very surprised if that was true. I'd imagine that anyone that was capable of fighting would have been drafted during the more desperate parts of the war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscri...a#Soviet_Union
