    Re: Brotherhood of the Storm

White Scars are a ridiculously stupid concept in a universe which has it's fair share. I'll be passing on this book (especially at that price) but as much as I dislike the sons of the Khan I hope to god they're not written like the White Scar in A Thousand Sons.

Can I just say, making it only available for a limited time period, rather than in limited numbers, is so much better move than their previous LE novels, where everyone tried to log in at ground-zero and ended up crashing the website?

This is very good news on several fronts . I wonder if BL will mention afterwards how many they sold; it would be interesting to see what the actual demand is for the novellas.

They've also said that there'll be a possible order service for this at Games day.

This is a very nice move and it appears they indeed have learned from the issues last time. This looks quite nice and given Mr. Wraight wrote the story it should be a good read.

    Re: Brotherhood of the Storm

this excellent news. I have every ltd edition fantasy and 40k and always my biggest worry was missing out with the limited numbers. Also really happy that this should stop the ebay 'I accidentally bought 10' brigade.

At least BL seem to be listening.

PS cant see a thread but anybody know what pre releases at Gamesday yet...I know there was a list last year [Sorry for going off topic]

Has anyone else read the extract on the BL site? Three White Scar names are mentioned - they are the names of the Ghenghis Khan's Father, Eldest Son, and Grandson by his eldest son. *Groan!*, So much for originality!

    Re: Brotherhood of the Storm

Ha, I'm just amused that I was chatting to someone in detail about the Horus Heresy series, saying how the White Scars are the legion with the least coverage so far...then immediately afterwards I go to the Black Library site and there it is

Great to see them finally being looked at, but £30 for a novella? Youch...

In principle I agree, I've always enjoyed the conceptual challenge behind making them more sensible conceptually than they appear at first glance. With that in mind, and being able to relate that Chris Wraight seems to write with a similar thought process, that the extract reads more than well enough?

Not perfect, but thoughtful at least and massively different to ATS, at least on first glance!

Massive thumbs-up for making it limited time, instead of limited numbers (aka. crashing websites and eBay fodder). Credit where credit is due, well done BL.

    Re: Brotherhood of the Storm

The White Scars can work in the imagery if we regard them as adherents of 'maneuverist' warfare - so extremely fast and flexible fighting. They are the ultimate guerrillas and shock troops that don't waste time consolidating positions or anything else like that. They just find the enemy's weakest point, attack with overwhelming force, then withdraw while the enemy is trying to reorder themselves.

This is essentially the modern Space Marine tactic, albeit taken to extremes by the Scars. I think there's excellent potential for this Legion, although it would take some sensible and creative writing.

    Re: Brotherhood of the Storm

First Horus Heresy book I'm really interested in unfortunately its a little beyond my budget..

I actually find the Scars less ridiculous than many other things in the universe and am actually hoping they really do something interesting with them. Might even convince me to collect some space marines.

We are arguing. On the internet. About a fantasy. Wargame. There's absolutely no way we are not nerds, and no reason whatsoever to try to make some sort of hierarchy.

I don't find WS any more silly than Alpha Legion, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Salamanders etc.
WS could certainly be made very silly, but the same could be said for any other legion

Not a promising start but I have faith in Mr. Wraight.

Out of curiosity how was the White Scar in A Thousand Sons portrayed?

His "accent" was told to us, he spoke as a fairly typical native mongolian/chinese person would speak in english. It was..... unoriginal.

Doesn't help that Chris mentions in the trailer: "This is the book White Scars fans have been waiting for."
