Bretonnia finecast available for advance order

Since this is news I figure it didn't fit into the rumor thread, but as the title says you can preorder Bret forecast now. I was surprised to see Great Weapon Lord isn't there, but that just gives me one more chance to but it while it's comparatively cheap.

$74.25 for 5 grail or questing knights? If the Bret's vastly underpowered book didn't kill the army this should be a nice nail for the coffin.

and i think the questing knights come as is, so buying 2 sets of 5 gives you 2 full command groups...

Yeah, the rumored Grail Knights/Questing Knights dual plastic kit can't come soon enough.

I was able to pick up the old metal Grail Knights and Questing Knights off of amazon a couple days ago for $50 each; maybe there are still some available?

Why do I get the feeling that this release of finecash is going to greatly delay any plastic kits for the brets? Gotta milk all the new players before they price themselves out of the market! I'm sure mantic will be kind enough to release some knights right around the time GW finally gets around to a new bret book though!

Because making models in finecast does not affect the release of plastic kits. Other way around. If a plastic kit is coming soon, GW may wait on the finecast. On the other hand, it does keep models in production so players can buy them. Since there are no new sculpts in there, it does not require any actual design work, just a switch of materials when stock of a certain kit or range runs low.

I don't follow 40k, what happened with the hive tyrant?

It was finecasted, later it was released as a plastic kit.
Essentially something being made in finecast doesn't mean it won't be updated (even in the short term).

It came out in Finecast, then they released a shiny new plastic kit within a couple of months.

Finecasting just means they've used up their existing stock of metals, no more than that.

Note thought that heaps of models have been converted to resin, but only one or two of those have been relaunched as plastic. So it's not impossible, but it seems that with new books, at least, the trend is that the things that get released with the book are new things or metal to plastic redos. So if the book is due out reasonably soon, it's unlikely (but not impossible) that resin kits get redone as plastic, but if it's further away (and it seems the bret book is), then it might not mean anything.

I don't think it works like that: ultimately, all the metals are going to be replaced with finecast versions, when merely depends on the stocks left. They're also all going to be replaced with plastic at a moment or another. The tyranid prince just happened to have a plastic kit planned for that date, and either metals ran out just a bit too early (so need for a short period of finecast), or on the contrary, metals have lasted longer than expected (so ridiculously short period of transition). That's all there is to it I believe.

I'm not sure how you can say GW are going to cash in on these at those prices. All this means is less people will play Bretts and more business will be done over e-bay.

I am not going to buy a metal Trebuchet no matter the price. But maybe I am an exception.

Turning a miniature into finecast isn't a big investment. Same moulds, different (cheaper) material, different packaging. Due to the rising metal prices this is mostly a cost reduction on their part. This means that miniatures released in finecast won't be immune to a complete redux shortly after.

You need different molds for Finecast casting than you need for metal casting, I think. Even though both utilizes more or less the same casting equipment, they need different arrangement of parts and so on... Also, it seems that resin moulds wear out pretty quickly?

But then, compared to a new plastic kit, it is a miniuscule investment, that's true...

Finally, a Battle Standard Bear with a lightweight flag! I still have not stuck the metal one on because the pole is too bendy.

I don't seem to have this problem, truth to be said, although he does pick his standard up only for battles as he's not yet glued

If not the price I would have gotten another BSB for this improvement (or if I haven't gotten an extra BSB body for conversion already). I guess I'll try to go with the metal flag.
