    Alternative Vargheist models?

    Hey guys,

I'm keen to give Vargheists a try. However, I really don't like the GW models.
Does anybody know any nice alternatives?

I know Skinwolves are an option but I want to use those for Crypt Horrors (and/or wait for Mantic to release their Werewolves).

Anything else out there that will look nice?

    Thanks!!

This werewolf from Reaper: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStor...f/latest/14563 (they have quite a few werewolf models).

You could also peruse this thread over at the Vampire Counts forum: http://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-...-your-Varghulf

Edit: Sorry, I thought you meant Varghulf. http://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-...-Crypt-Horrors

Your best bet is probably to take something ogre sized and suitable bestial you like the look of and give it wings (GW have a fair few in their bitz section). If you're doing a necrarch theme, you could just go crazy and have some sewn together frankenstein's monster type things ... with wings.

Personally, I never liked the fluff for the Vargheists. I prefer a whole "Creatures of the Night" feel for my army by including some werewolves. To that effect I find the Wolfen from confrontation to be quite handy.

That's a nice site to peruse the minitures that were produced, finding them for purchase can be a much harder proposition however. Most, if not all, are out of print. The visual is worth the trouble in trying to find them in my opinion though. For my selection of Werewolves I like the:

    http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/a...ia/Varghar.jpg
    http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/a...enHunters2.jpg
    http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/a...Repentant1.jpg
    http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/a...Waningmoon.jpg

I like to use a combination of them for Varghiests and placing the ones I use for Vargulfs on scenic bases to make them seem a bit larger. I explain the lack of wings with running leaps to get around the silly fly special rule. My opponents don't seem to mind so far.

    I really like these:

They look proper vicious to represent Vargheists. However, like you said, they are all out of print. I can probably get my hands on the GW vargheists with a HEFTY discount so that does tip the scales in the regular models' favour.
But those models are sweeeet! The ones you selected are greaaat too! So all those models are on 40mm bases?

They all fit on a 40mm. The bases that come with them have smaller tops then the GW bases so the swap gives you a bit more space to play with.
