Look Out Sir! and determining closest

The FAQ changes Look Out Sir from a model within 6" to determine who is closest to the character.

What if you have more than 1 model that is equidistant from the character, say 2 or 3 models? Do you randomly select with each LoS attempt?

I cannot see anywhere that once your LoS attempt is successful, you randomnly select and that you must keep allocating wounds to that same model, its just who's is determined to be closest.... which may be more than 1 model....

I would play it that once you have determined which model is the closest, then that model remains the closest until it dies. Keeps it simple.

I'd say it works basically like in melee: Multiple models can be closest (BtB) therefore you choose the order you kill them off in. But one model must die before another can be allocated wounds. Simple enough.

Agreed - the random allocation rules in both the shooting and assault phase use this method, there is no precedent anywhere in 6th for not continuing to pile wounds onto one nominated model until dead. The whole system works that way.

I had this discussion with the local crew yesterday about this. Random wound allocation for close combat can be interpreted different than shooting. In close combat, the BRB says to choose a model in base contact with a model striking at that initiative step to begin taking wounds. It continues doing so until it dies. If there are multiple candidates, the player gets to choose the model. (per the first bullet point under CC allocation). What caught our eye is the BRB says the model is chosen at that specific initiative step. For what ever reason the chosen model does not die at that initiative step, the player could technically choose a different model in base contact as the closest if a new wound pool is created at a different initiative step. Reading it carefully, the player is required to allocate the wound to a model that is in base with a model attacking at that step. If lets say a power fist attacks later on and is not in base with anything but is supporting, you can put it any model in base contact with the unit at In1 step. This is outlined on bullet point 2 when no models are left in base with the attacking model at that step. Due to bullet point 1, the first model chosen is not always the closest model throughout the entire combat, just that initiative step.

Yeah, I notice that too. The model taking the wounds until it dies is only applicable to that initiative steps. So yeah, technically you can still allocate the wounds to more than one models providing each model survive the initiative step it is taking wounds from and there are others in base contact (or as close as that model).

Thinking about that, means that in a squad, you should try not to mix weapons of different initiative. You allow wound allocation to you enemy.

I've just re-read over Allocate Wounds part in the Shooting Phase on pg 15 and the answer is under "Random Allocation"
