    Hello

As promised, I am going to be uploading photos of my progress from the winter. Up first is this large multi-story building that will act as the centerpiece to my table:

The middle of the building features a cleared out floor as if a tank with a dozer blade cleared away the debris from the ruined building. This makes for a great place to nestle a tank and get a cheeky cover save!

I used a spare computer fan for the back of the wall on the scratch made wall

The building has a small ledge for a few troops to sit on

Drawing inspiration from an old gamesworkshop article, I cut out some scratch-built wall pieces from foamcore. This saved money and gives the building a bit of pattern.

The very top floor of the building is a flat floor with some gears that were found in an old VCR

The building has just been primed and the details have yet to be added. My plan is to prime all the buildings and then work on the details so that everything is done together.

As always, let me know what you guys think!

Wow, while I think it's a bit too tall (definitely suitable for a center piece however!), I really love the ground floor and rubble. Looks absolutely stunning and has a very realistic feel to it. Wish I had the skill and patience (and time) to replicate that. Great piece overall.

Fabulous building! Should really capture the attention at the center of the field. Very detailed work.

That building makes me want to steal the idea and start collecting Vanilla Marines just to put some Scout Snipers in it!
Great job, the gears are an especially nice touch!

I'm really enjoying this project and page. As others have said, it's inspirational. I'm wondering what you use to prime the buildings? I'm just starting a similar project (though I don't yet have your skills) and would appreciate some tips as I really dig the texture and shading to your buildings. I've been using a mixture of black, gray and rust coloured spray paints, but it isn't as nice as yours. Do you use an air gun or anything? Also - I love the ruined rhino. Great battlefield piece.

Wow! pleasantly surprised by all the replies! Okay now for some responses:

    Weazel:

Yes it is too big! haha but it serves its purpose as the center piece!

    Nychthemreron:

Yup! it is a great center piece! But I will probably need to start building some tallish buildings to put around it

    Garanaul the Black:

Guess who collects space marines and loves scout snipers

    Fighting Newfoundlander:

I actually do use rust spraypaint! haha. It's a specific technique tho I guess but I'll do a tutorial in a week or two if you are interested

Re: Cities of Death!!! By Iron Kid

Okay, guys. Here are a few more updates:

I purchased some bridges from Pegasus hobbies and decided to prime them the same colours as my city buildings - these are going to be great ways to add some dynamic terrain and break up a 6x4 board into a 8x4 board.

Additionally, I made another half modular piece (6 inches by 12 inches). This one is supposed to be a courtyard of dead trees that will be added to the side of cathedral-type buildings for some interesting detail. The plastic trees I found at my local hobby store.

As you can see, the piece can fit a squad of 8 guardsman with a heavy weapons team:

Size:	333.5 KB

I also painted these two 1 foot by 1 foot tiles. They will add some open space on the board. one is just sand while the other is literally a tiled piece of plastic slapped on to the board which will act as a sort of courtyard:

Name:	WP_20140603_21_06_17_Pro.jpg
Views:	182
Size:	171.2 KB
ID:	232791

Seeing that I made the forest/park tile, I decided to make another half tile that was industrial themed. I made a base and put some plasticard on some old soup cans to make them look like storage containers:

Name:	WP_20140604_11_19_46_Pro.jpg
Views:	182

Additionally, the cans are removable so they can be stored easier and add variation if needed:

Size:	232.3 KB

Lastly, I painted some scatter terrain: the one in the back is a small landing pad that can be put on the sides of buildings while the left one is a crashed aquilla lander that can serve as an objective marker and lastly, the wrecked tank. I am planning on using the wrecked tank model to signify, well, a wrecked space marine tank when playing a game!

Hope this was a satisfying update! much more to come!

Is that plastic knitting grid under the cans? What did you use to glue it?

You bet it is! I used superglue to bind the knitting grid - it provides great texture.

    Hello

After a long long long time away, a crashed site, and many experiences, warseer is back and so am I. I am looking forward to finally finishing this blog as my cities of death board is nearly complete! Stay tuned to see my progress and catch up on what I have missed. For now, I will provide you with a few photos from a few years ago showing a wip photo of the city with the bridges.

This photo was taken around the time when I posted last so I will do my best to scavenge old wip photos that connect this past photo to the ones I am taking right now.

    Hello

I made some additions on the cathedral building and put some rubble on the base - after sand, it'll be ready for Painting!

Also, Here's another piece of scatter terrain I've been working on:

If you notice, this was originally from the larger base of the crashed tank. But I figured it would look cooler as a seperate piece that could be put in other places.

I will post a few more photos of other buildings that have been completed, then I will take a photo of the entire city so far.

    Stay tuned!

    Good to be back!

    Here are more progress photos:

    Part I

If you have been following everything in this thread, you know that I have been struggling with one of the two-tile buildings for quite some time now. But finally, after almost 6 years of struggle, I have completed it! As you can see, the building is made up of kits from 3 separate terrain lines (plus some other add ons):

I wanted the building(s) to feel like a down town area that has gone through a multitude of refacings and has been built and rebuilt over the years. Come to think of it, that's exactly how it's been built!

Re: Cities of Death!!! By Iron Kid

    Part II

Some details of the new building that serve an aesthetic and functional purpose:

A peasants home. This tiny door taken from an old warhammer building serves as a variation in the tall cities of death building pieces. I like to think of this as a lower class citizen living in a confined and small building - maybe the tenant of the building itself:

This next picture shows the clock tower in the facade of the building. Again, taken from an old warhammer building kit and slapped on the front of the arched tower. If you look closely, you can see a magnet in the middle of the clock. In the future, I plan to use this as a turn counter for battles within the city:

Next up is the balcony over the peasant's house. This has a little ladder leading up to it with a computer taken from the wyvern tank kit:

The catwalk on the building is removable to fit units in between the small space:

Name:	thumbnail_WP_20171017_027.jpg
Views:	152
Size:	36.2 KB

I also used some copper piping for the back of the building:

    Name: thumbnail_WP_20171017_031.jpg
Views: 150
Size: 28.2 KB

And made a little balcony at the front with plasticard:

Size:	30.5 KB

And finally a picture of a wip building that I am using with pegasus hobbies buildings. This one is on a half tile and I may add another story to it. Basically, it will act as a space filler to increase the density of the board:

Another day, Another couple of buildings:

These ones were taken directly from a gamesworkshop article from over 10 years ago.

This is one of the smallest and simplest. It was the first building made for the table. This one is actually completed and painted:

The next one is quite large and is a good solid building that adds density to the board:

Finally, Here is a picture of the entire city. Many of the buildings are in different stages of completion but I like the look of it so far. I am also in the process of making a bunch of scatter terrain, barracades, and stratagems (because cities of death is a playable game in the rulebook!!) some of which you can see in the photo.

Additionally, I am planning to make this a 4x4 table. Originally, it was planned to be a 6x4 but I feel it looks better this way and I have already spent YEARS building it! I've also designed it specifically for killteam/inquisamunda games which are typically only played on 4x4 boards.

With winter fast approaching here in Canada, I need to work fast to get everything primed. Would anyone be interested in a tutorial for how I paint my buildings?

    Stay tuned for more updates!
