    Gamesday Anthology 2012

After a lot of hassle, I've ordered a copy; should arrive in a few days. The true purpose of this thread, however, is to discuss the six short stories within. There are two Horus Heresy short stories and one Scouring era offering from ADB, has anyone read this yet?

read the eisenhorn vs Ravenor one, I'd advise reading that before reading Pariah as things will fit a bit better

Please tell me the Abaddon story isn't great so I can justify passing this up.

Oh, this is up for order, thanks for the info. I probably will order a copy as will not visit our Games Day next year.

Sadly only one Warhammer based story.

Ah, yes. I'll be re-reading Eisenhorn and Ravenor over the next month or two, in preparation for Pariah; I'm happy to see a related short story in this anthology. Still haven't listened to The Keeler Image though.

I do hope this means that we may actually get the story of Abaddon's rise to power.

That ADB short story is meant to be a lead-in to his new series about Abaddon's rise to power as Warmaster.

That's good news. Do you have an ETA on the release of the first novel, or any information about how far into the writing process he is?

Its only been announced. To the best of my knowledge, he is currently finishing up Horus Heresy: Betrayer, and then has Horus Heresy: Nightfall. The Abaddon Scouring-era novel is next I think. A Sororitas novel by him was also mentioned at GD, given what I've heard from folk who went there.

The only one I've read from the book so far was Penhelion - the Eisenhorn v Ravenor story.

"Extinction" is a series of vignettes, apparently set in the period in which the Sons of Horus almost guttered out before Abaddon reunited them and set about reversing their fortunes. The decline isn't narrated directly, it emerges between the lines as we see the deaths of Son after Son on various battlefields and at the hands of various enemies. It wraps up with a short scene featuring Abaddon himself (not a death scene, obviously) which is a fragment in and of itself but which takes on more significance when you know the surrounding story and can see the symbolism.
When the people lose sight of their duty they are no longer human and become something less than beasts. They have no place in the fold of humanity nor in the heart of the Emperor. Let them die and be forgotten.

Sounds awesome, I like the idea of sudden cuts from Space Marine to Space Marine with them all dying and the Legion seeming to die out. Sounds like you expect the story to come to an end with the destruction of the Legion but having it end with Abaddon deciding enough is enough is a nice juxtaposition to the rest. Almost sounds like something you'd expect in the first three minutes of a 'Rise of Abaddon' movie, think the LOTR prologue, setting up everything ready for the main story. Wish I'd gone to Games Day now.

There is one rather significant part in that story. The fate of a certain something.
