so, does anyone have any exp. with the new cultists?
When do they work better bare bones or marked?

Tyger Tyger. burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
NAKED, WITH MARK OF SLAANESH!!!
No, sorry, haven't tried them yet...
I haven't tried then out yet, but just looking at the entry I'd say naked is the way to go.
With MoK and Dark Apostle in this unit.
Its hard to say, really, as I see them more as "fun-models".
But honestly... for such cheap models, even a 1 or 2 point mark is a HUGE % increase on the total cost.
And if you compare them to orks or IG, they arent very point-efficient to begin with.
Look at it like that: If you could give them MoK AND MoN, they would be around the powerlevel of an orkboy maybe slightly less... but you just doubled the cultists point cost. This... is... horrible.
If you have a very good plan and setup, then you can give them marks... but generally I would say: No marks plz.
This or naked
But then again.
You really don't need more close combat troops in a chaos list you can already pick like 4 other (more) viable options
the best way is probably whit Typhus.
that unit of 30 zombies for 130 points will hold that objective till goats learn to fly .
Mark of tzeetch is roughly a cancel out / liability
So 12 cultists naked = 48
12 cultists MoT = 60
Every 6 wounds from ap6 or less you statistically save a cultist
So 12 bolter wounds squad one is dead
12 bolter wounds squad 2 has two guys left
But you paid for equivalent of three extra vanillia guys anyway, you may as well of bought a squad of 15 and know for a fact you'll have 3 left instead of statistically playing the odds and having only two left.
Its a theme running through the codex.

I'm curious about running them with either MoN or MoK. An apostle in the unit or nearby wouldn't go amiss. Didn't they give a fearless bubble?
Also, check out plague zombies. Fearless, FnP, and cheap. If the FAQ confirms you can get a full unit and not just 10, they will be a very solid fodder unit.

Is it that surprising that buying Nurgle is roughly as effective as buying the amount of troops you save by buying it? Isn't that called balance? What did you expect; gimmes?
I guess you just have to take the #1 rule of list building in mind
BOYS BEFORE TOYS.
yes, but imagine nurgle cultist under the influence of the Tallyman?
noxious touch, super neato!
ignore armor saves? you're already winning by this point.![]()

You either run them a Zombies or naked - anything else is just a waste of points.
If you think it's worth marking I suspect it's symptomatic of lots of other less then optimal choices in the list.

Short answer: YES.
Slightly longer answer: There actually are some synergies in the codex, especially with Huros infiltrate, The outflanking Slanesh Steed, but even the plain apostle or fearless characters in general.
So maybe, if all the stars are right, there is an army-setup, that actually profits from options, which seem not that good at first sight.
Sadly, these combos ARE most of the time as bad, as they seem... but sometimes they work, or well... are fluffy.![]()
Well for starters ic's can only join squads that have the same
mark
Buy them purely naked! Take the Empire down just like Zapp Brannigan took down the killbots!.
Actually... Err... That's a brilliant idea. I may have an idea for a new army.
Are auto guns worth it? this brings them to the same point cost as IG infantry.
You would be using them as simple objective holders.

I'm now thinking of running them in units of 10 with autoguns and stubber. That's 65 points...still sounds reasonable to me.
