Thread: So I'm an idiot [Plastic Glue]

So I'm an idiot [Plastic Glue]

I have a plastic glue where the long betal pipe that makes sure that only a few drops come out at a time, well, that pipe is clogged.

I have tried taking it out and holding it under a flame, but no dice.

    What do I do?

Have you tried a needle or safety pin down there?

Look for one of those plastic ties that are used to wrap cables in packaging - most have a very thin wire core that's the right size to fit down a glue nozzle. Carefully strip most of the plastic off (leaving a bit to act as a handle) and get poking

You can just use a lighter to heat the nozzle, this will dissolve any dried plastic glue.

Coincidentally happened to me over the weekend.
I've got various sizes of fuse wire that I use for modelling projects. You can normally find some small enough to thread through.

I keep a pin of the right thin-ness handy for such occasions - thin brass modelling wire is also good as it is long enough.

I use very thin floristry wire to unclog mine.

I use the excess from Guitar Strings. You usually end up with about 6-7 inches of wire clipped off after replacing the string. You can probably pick up a regular gauge high E or B string for next to nothing from a music shop.

Yep, grab some pliers and a lighter, then apply liberal amount of heat. A good idea to do this outdoors, though - you might get a bit of burning glue and specks of floating plastic glue ash..

Using fire on a container filled with flammable glue is asinine.

I normally REMOVE the needle from the bottle before doing this. Anyone with a modicum of common sense does (which admittedly, does preclude some 90% of the populace).

Or you could just use a bottle and brush glue and never have to deal with that crap again.

Tamiya is best, but Testors is good enough.

I use a bit of piano wire to poke down the tube to fix this, its hard as nails, difficult to beld, and can be used for cool stull like ariels.
