Fantasy Army: Empire

Hello!

A few new fantasy players at our club wanted to try out smaller size games so they can get playing with what they have already built and painted...

I came up with the following list for my Empire force:

Warrior Priest
Barded Warhorse
Heavy Armour
Enchanted Shield

9 Knights w/ Lance and Shield
Full Command

3 Demigryph Knights

Total 499

Is this too unfriendly?...Any suggestions for alternate infantry builds greatly rec'd...

I wouldn't call it unfriendly; what I would call it depends on it's purpose. It wouldn't help anyone learn the game or the army very much, and it wouldn't be very fun to play (with or against) more than once.

If you want to maintain a mounted theme, I would drop some knights for pistoliers. It would be less competitive, but the variety would be more interesting for newer players.

Well at 500 points Demigryphon knights are going to be fairly hard to stop.

When doing begginer games i like to reccommend an infantry unit, a small mounted unit, cheap character and a ranged unit from core. This allows the main parts of the game to be experienced easily without some of the more nasty gribblies potentially smashing through the game.

The next stage, increase the size to 750 and take a level 1 mage and maybe something else thats cheap, just slowly build your way up.

Your army would look nice, but i honestly think it's a little to much for a 500pt game, there the type of units i'd expect to see added to am escalation league game 1500+. However in saying that, if the meta there is high competitive, then be my guest, like i said, it's bloody nice for 500pts!!

Confirms that my list might be a bit too brutal for first time play!

Going to drop 4 Knights and pop in 5 Pistoliers instead.

It keeps the all mounted cavalry theme I like but showcases a few different aspects of the game like Vanguard, Shooting, Bait/Flee and Redirecting so should be more useful for new gamers.

So played my 500 point game against a High Elf army as follows:

~Noble? (Hero Level High Elf)
~10 HE Bowmen
~6 White Lions
~5 Shadow Warriors
~2 Great Eagles

Was a pretty close game I ended up winning but only had 2 Demigryphs and 1 Pistolier left!

We both had chances to win the game but things ebbed and flowed with bad decisions/dice...

Was very good fun and going to try this again...

Oddly enough our club is doing a 500 pt deal.

I had an Empire list similar to yours.

Priest on horse, 5 knights, 3 demigryphs, pistoliers. Keeping it all mounted for style.
