Return of the living dead 2 - as an example of that scene - I know it's not the right film though...
Trying to convince Warseer that GW are anything less than perfect is like trying to teach a horde of zombies that lettuce is a perfectly acceptable alternative to brains.

Is that the one where the zombies shout 'brrrrrrains!' ?
No, this is not a zombie-flick.

And you can take low-budget very literally. Not 6 million, not 1 million, but more like a couple of ten thousands. For real.

The described scene takes roughly about a third of the film, which is - as all films by this director - like a dream; surreal and atmospheric.

The name of this european director will be good enough, if you are not familiar with his work. Bonus points for the name of the film.

Is this a (very) short film then? Or has the gentleman involved got exceptional stamina?

Nice try with Ossorio but alas, no. Actually I would think fewer people are familiar with Ossorio than with this man.

Most of his films are not short, normal length of 1,5 hour. So that would be the latest. Now you mention it, he made some softporn movies to make some money, because with his horrorfilms which many times also have some erotic flavour he didn't....

He made films from the late 60's until the late 00's. Allthough he never became very well-known, because of dvd there has been a revival of his films. They are released all over the world, ranging from cheap buys to extensive luxury editions.

Hopefully somebody knows his name. Maybe it's not for everybody, but I believe he deserves to be mentioned in this thread. If I give the man's nationality you probably need a minute of web-search for the answer, so I'll wait with that just a little bit longer....

Ok, to let things move on, the movie that I was talking about opens with a scene of a girl on a french beach, who finds a black - Iron Rose.
The french beaches are a common sight in the films of this director, who happens to be - french.

A close guess - but not the right answer - would be the very popular and admired cult-director Jess Franco, responsible for a huge amount of bizar creativity on extremely low budget.

I had convinced myself he would be Spanish.

    Is it Jean Rollin?

Yep, it's Jean Rollin. A director with a very distinguished style, which he maintains through almost all his films. Not much to say about plot or acting, virtually no production values, but it's easy to get addicted to the dream-like atmosphere he's able to create on film. I'm a fan.

Next time I'm planning not to go this far of the beaten track, but like somebody mentioned; obscure is a good thing in a thread like this. And honestly, the earlier clues would have been really helpfull for somebody who is familiar with Rollin's work.
