    Re: My Battlegroup Forces

Loving this paint log. Just got the books myself and decided on 20mm. Might be hard getting matchups since most round me play FoW at 15mm so what do you use for the small and mid sized round bases? I really like how you did those. Basing just makes the finished model pop. Im also wondering if you removed the plastic base that often is default, to mount on your rounds for individual infantry. Id love a lil guidance as most of what Im fnding for basing is for 15mm games. Thanks!

    Hi Mc1gamer!
I'm glad you like my minis
Single infantry figures are usually on metal washers, and heavy weapon and specialist teams are on plastic card. I'm using washers around 20-30mm.

I use geometric compass to cut round bases from plastic card.

I don't really remove the default base that comes with the figure, I only cut it around so it fit on the washer. I put some plaster around model default base after gluing it to the washer so the "ground" is leveled. On top of that I'm applying PVA glue and some sand-a-like material. Then the base coat, some dark shade of brown paint then highlight with light shade of brown/sand and some static grass and flocks.
I hope that help, if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask 'em

Pictures look good- paint job looks great.

Here is a great tutorial on mini photography; very simple and easy to follow. I tried to do it with my pics and although it made some improvement, there are a couple of features I can't get to work right .

Another Cromwell IV named "HELA". This one is based on the actual vehicle of the Division commander gen. Maczek.

Wow, lot's of great models to look at in this thread!

I just started out with 20mm models for Battlegroup and Bolt Action myself and I recognise a lot of the kits you are using... In particular, the Zvezda and PSC kits are great!

I started a blog, especially for this project, feel free to drop in and take a look at the start of my 20mm Germans:http://toysoldiersofftowar.blogspot.nl/

I would love to see more updates for your project!

    Re: My Battlegroup Forces

Thanks, glad you liked it... I am still in the start-up phase of my project, but I try to update as often as I can. I added the link to my blog in my signature...

I have been playing 15mm Flames of War for a couple of years now, and wanted a new scale... 20mm seemed like a good idea. So far I am enjoying myself with all the different kits available. I have used Italeri, Zveda, Hasegawa, First to Fight, S-model and PSC, and have some Hobby Boss and Dragon kits awaiting construction. Are there any good kits/companies that you can direct me to?

    Re: My Battlegroup Forces

From the manufactures I can recommend: Revell, Dragon, PSC, S-model and new kits from Air Fix. Kits wise "German Stowage and Tank Commanders" from PSC will be good choice if you are planning to collect germans as there is plenty of crew figures and all kinds of stowage that you can put on your models. For the vehicles I really like the Dragon and Revell kits, they both have good level of details and are fairly easy to assemble, the only drawback are small parts like gun barrels, antennas and mirrors which I usually leave out as they can easily break during transport or while playing. Try to avoid kits with rubber tracks, sometimes they can be really pain in the ass to assemble and in extreme cases the rubber can affect the plastic parts seriously and damage your model.

    Re: My Battlegroup Forces

Thanks... PSC is a favourite of mine, also for my 15mm Flames of War, good quality models and none if the fiddly bits... I also leave tiny bits like mirrors and antennas on the sprues. Those things tend to snap as soon as I even look at them...

My Italeri Panzer II has rubber tracks and it has taken me more effort than I would like to admit to get them to fit. So that's some sound advice...
