    Re: Good, old fashioned, Squats.

Thanks . I am hoping I can continue with them for a little while longer. The first five will be getting basing tabs this week so that they will be ready for casting but in the meantime, I've started on the next 'Halfling' Sniper... :

    Cheers .

The Ogryn sniper is coming along as well:

I guess he'll count as a scout Sentinel with lascannon and camo netting.

The snipers have all had their basing tabs added:

They have been packed up and will be sent to my caster tomorrow, for casting in July/August (he's a busy chap). Once they are cast up, I will be able to sell some .

How did you do the rifles; greenstuff over fine hollow steel tubes?

    Re: Good, old fashioned, Squats.

The rifles are just a bit of wire, with a tube over the top (so that the tube isn't hollow) and then the rest is just green stuff

Do you glue the wire? I imagine you need some way to hold the tube and wire in place while you sculpt...?

    Re: Good, old fashioned, Squats.

    The process goes like this:

    1. Twist wire for the Halfling body. It is a simple upside-down 'Y' .
    2. Drill holes in plasticard and spear the legs through the holes into a cork
    3. Coat the wire in green stuff and let it dry.
    4. Take another piece of wire and bend it into a walking stick shape.
    5. Slide on a length of aluminium tube and glue it in place.
    6. Hook the 'handle' of the 'walking stick' around the body of the Halfling and then hold it in place with a blob of greenstuff at the required position.
    7. Let it dry.
    8. Sculpt the rest

I use 0.8mm brass wire. I glue the aluminium tube on with superglue.

The nature of these particular sculpts means that I don't need wire in the arms because they are close to the body of the Halflings.

Inso, I am super interested in getting hold of a few of those halfling snipers. Do let us know when they're going to be available for purchase!

    Re: Good, old fashioned, Squats.

I sent them for casting today. My caster has a bit of a queue at the moment so I am expecting casts back at the end of July/beginning of August. Once I have them I will work out how to get them up for sale really quickly

Can I use them as Allies under 7th Ed. rules? I might consider buying a few, if so...?

I'm not really a fan of 8th so far, but I'm willing to read the rules cover-to-cover before I refuse to play it....

@Noble Korhedron - Ratling snipers are an elite choice in 7th edition Astra Millitarum Codex and start as a squad of 5 with optional 5 extra. I don't game and won't be buying 8th edition.

@SDKFZ - I know... crazy, right!? . As for selling Squats, I haven't sculpted any for myself so I can't sell what I haven't sculpted... YET

    Re: Good, old fashioned, Squats.

The thing is... I haven't got a design sorted yet. I certainly don't want to copy GW Squats but I do want them to be in the spirit of GW Squats.

In order to make them, I will need to make a bunch of weapons to go with them so that I can get them cast up for use in the range. That is the first building block. Next, I have to get a design for the three levels of armour and also a good helmet design. Once I have that sorted, I will have no problems getting the rest done... it's just getting the designs in my head that will take time.

The Halfling snipers were easy... Halflings with boots on, wearing a gillie suit and carrying a weapon that only has a barrel sticking out from all the camouflage (so I didn't need to actually design a weapon). Easy .

The Ogryn will be a one-off so I don't need to worry about replicating the weapon so it can be a unique design. That means I can have more of the rifle exposed without worrying about having to sculpt identical weapons. It also means that the weapon can be sculpted directly onto the Ogre rather than having to be separate. Easy .

If the Halflings do well... and the Ogre sniper does OK (I am not expecting him to be as popular because he doesn't have a profile in the game... unlike Ratling snipers), then I will start work on my Dwarf range (again - I have tried before)...

... the first attempt (which is dead now):

    ... another attempt:

Which can be purchased from this shop: http://www.grekwoodminiatures.co.uk/...Characters.php

    ... another attempt:

    ... so it isn't like I haven't given it a go
