This is the last unit in this phase of the army. They have the shields of the Germaniciani seniores, which is listed as a pseudocomitatenses unit in the Notitia Dignitatum, but I'll probably often run them as a limitanei levy unit. Most of them are based on the Dark Age Warriors plastic box.

Is the Notitia Dignitatum available in any form in the modern day that wont' cost silly money?

I have moved the discussion regarding WAB and other single-model systems to this thread in Historical Games.

The move is acceptable, but your avatar scares me.... *runs and hides*

Here comes a bulk post of things I painted in the down time.

Finally got around to finishing the basing on these guys. The archers are a mix of old metal Gripping Beast and new plastic GB. The catapult crew is converted from various plastic sets, and the catapult itself is a conversion of a self cast orc catapult from an old Prince August mould.

Here's a unit of Syrian archers, 2/3 from Warlord and the rest from Black Tree Design. The green robes are very close to my WWI Germans, but a mix of blue and green instead of black and green washes.

Great stuff, you *have* been productive over the summer

Did you cast that self-cast catapult yourself? If so, how did it go?, is it feasible? I'm still debating whether to give lead casting a go myself...

Just starting a Roman or Briton warband for the new SAGA expansion, so some good inspiration in here, very nice.

Thanks! Yup, used an old Prince August rubber mould. The catapult is this mould, converted* to get rid of the silly boxing glove. The mould I've had the most use of for this project is the barbarian fighters one. This type of casting, gravity casting, is easy, you just pour the metal and tap the mould a few times, no need for spinning machinery. I started casting under supervision when I was ten or so, so it can't be that difficult. But then, molten lead wasn't bad for kids at that time. ;-)

*I converted the cast model of course, not the mould itself.

Thank you. Maybe I should look it up, but then I don't get enough gaming in as it is, so I don't know if yet another rule system would help.

Very cool. I really like the freehands on the shirts of the archers and the look of the other archer unit in general.

Thanks for the link - they even have some explanation videos that make it look temptingly easy

This all looks great mrtn. I should have a try at casting myself one day
