No love for cardboard here, it seems. Well, I do love them... But I still don't have a post apoc rule set to play with so I will have to wait until I do. I do have something on my trail that interests me greatly... But it is still a while off before I can actually get it...

Oh well, I will have to settle for treating it as eye candy.

I don't think it's that, Daniel. I think it is because the forum settings do not allow me to change the topic heading - so the thread always reads "General WIP thread". Sounds pretty boring, even to me

Ha! It actually always takes a little while for things to catch on here in the Random section. So keep building it, and they will come.

    Right you are

We set up a 4'x4' table to test terrain density with the shipping containers we have and this was the result. We need to think about getting some bigger pieces if we ever want to offer an entire container board.

Some of the little "scenes" you can set up are really cool though...

If we ever need to do a container-themed table, we need a few large pieces. This is a CAD for a container crane that we are looking at.

Custom barricade set: soviet ice warriors

We occasionally get requests for barricade sets for specific armies or factions and this got us thinking about offering custom barricade sets.

The idea is that there is a standard shape onto which we would place a vector image that you sent us.

So to test the concept, I did some for my valhallans.

I think this is a workable concept so we are looking at coming up with a standard price for the service.

We've added three new products to the ‘$1 shipping’ category in the webstore. All three of these items will ship anywhere in the world for only $1

New vents and aircon pack that gives you double the number of aircon units than what the old pack did for only $2 more: $10.50

Container accessory kit that adds steps and walkways to your container layout: $8.50

Crates and pallet basic set… two large, two small and two pallets: $8.50

All the items that ship for only $1 are here: http://www.lasercutcard.co.za/shop/one-dollar-shipping

We’ve been asked several times to look at doing 10mm scale buildings for games like Dropzone Commander and we’ve finally decided to give it a try.

These are early tests. These are the straight 28mm scale files shrunk down and cut. There are huge gaps or overlaps as the 28mm files were carefully balanced to take into account the thickness of the card, which is now hopelessly out.

Nevertheless, I think these show that we have something we can contribute to the 10mm arena – all we need to do is recalibrate the files.

Futurehab #1: the shop (see the 28mm building here: http://www.lasercutcard.co.za/shop/s...ab/scifi-store)

Futurehab #2: the corner bar (see the 28mm building here: http://www.lasercutcard.co.za/shop/s...hab/corner-bar)

Futurehab #3: office block (still in testing – http://lasercutcard.co.za/2015/02/fu...ce-tower-wips/

Futurehab #4: office tower (still in testing)

Really cool creations here. I really like the gun turrets and the shipping containers. Great look and feel to them, especially when painted. Infact I like all the site designs, the offices/bridge etc.

One thing I would suggest as I've always thought card scenery fails on this level, have you thought of how to combat obvious joins? I mean where one flat panel edge runs into another and you can see card material, post number #17 do you design strips to run along these edges? There's not many in your work and that's the only reason why I hold out and save for plastic sets. Cool plog.
Please have a look at my WoC models and give some CC. Thanks

    Thanks for the kind words

Yes, generally we cover those join tabs with a piece of detailing card. The card is 1mm thick and we normally want 2-3 layers on every surface. 3 layers of card is the same as 1 layer of MDF with the advantage of holding more 3d detail in the layers.

The bits in post #17 where you can see the tabs - that is part of the building that should normally be covered by the "glass" first story layer so you would not normally see them

Since it is Tuesday and since we are trying to have something new every Tuesday, today is the day of the skips and bins

The “urban scatter” set has been renamed “skips and bins”. It has gone up in price $2 (from $5.50 to $7.50) but it now has an extra skip in it (which is the most useful piece in the set)

It ships worldwide for $1 and will love you long time.

We occasionally get asked “yes but how strong is the card?”

A picture is worth a thousand words so here’s a quick 2000 word essay entitled “How strong is our weakest model (the picnic bench)?”

How strong is our weakest model (the picnic bench)?

    Re: [LaserCutCard] General WIP thread

We’ve created a new product to round out our container range – stacked containers.

We found that a lot of the time we were stacking the containers on top of one another and someone suggested we do a stacked set (as it would be cheaper than two individual ones).

    And so here it is.

$16.95 for the set of stacked containers, and postage anywhere is $2 (the set has two stacks)

    http://www.lasercutcard.co.za/shop/containers-stacked

Also, we’ve created a bundle deal that is any two of our container sets for $25.50 (postage is $4)

You can mix and match between

    - set of 3 standard containers
    - set of 2 stacks of containers
    - container houses
    - container shops
    - container site office

I am happy to see you are working on 10mm stuff. The MDF market is pretty big, but the prices are still rather prohibitive. I hope your offering will be more attractive in that regard.

Are there plans for 10mm containers, skips and bins? That's something not out there yet.

I'm hoping to have final cuts of those done next week some time. Hopefully all the scaling issues will be ironed out.

    Re: [LaserCutCard] General WIP thread

After our initial strength test (scroll back a bit if you did not see it), someone in the Infinity Australia facebook page asked if the picnic table could stand TWO bricks The answer is, one brick good, two bricks bad (but it can handle the weight of two bricks with assistance)

Nothing actually broke but it was very difficult to get the weight to stay exactly above the legs. If I held it in place, the legs could take the weight but as soon as I let go it would fall one way or the other to the side. I think my work table is not actually level.

I was quite impressed that the normal wood glue did not tear… the card just bent. I’ll have these back on the table after straightening the legs up.

Just to be clear... I am in no way implying that our stuff is stronger than anyone else's - these are just to say that our stuff is stronger than most people give card credit for.

This is a model that I am really excited about. The test build went together incredibly easily meaning all we have to do is think about detailing. When you compare it to some other flyers it is a little big and so the next test will scale it down a little but overall it worked out fantastically.

    Re: [LaserCutCard] Seven cool tables

We supplied the scenery for a 40k tournament over this last weekend that was part of Icon By The Sea - a local gaming convention

Here are the tables we did

There are bigger images here: http://lasercutcard.co.za/2015/04/icon-by-the-sea-2015/

The container docks table was a highlight of the tournament.
Apart from featuring plenty of examples of our shipping container range, it also featured a container ship AND an escort destroyer.
The destroyer had three basilisks on it, each of which could be fired once per game.

The Necron table represented the surface of a world totally given over to a data matrix and featured an example of every single item in our Cyborg range

The “Infinity” table represented something unfamiliar to most 40k players: unruined buildings. It had all our Futurehab range on it

The art deco ruins table was a big favourite with all the players, being dominated by a huge skyscraper that had special rules attached to it. This used multiple versions of our art deco ruins

The ork table used all of our existing Orc range as well as our soon-to-be-released orc fort and orc bastion

The Nurgle table featured a large number of disturbing baby heads, showing that cute little dolls can be way way creepier than skulls.

The alpine table represented a 40k version of the Ardennes

The entire weekend was a blast and we will definitely be back next year, bigger and better.

The gunship model is finished… it just needs a nice paint job.

It should retail for $16 including the stand.

it is bigger than a storm talon and smaller than a storm raven.

We're keeping the detailing down so that you can modify it into whatever you want.

I really like the converted container buildings! Perfect for inq28, necromunda, or really anything! I'm quite interested, but I do have a question, how would you rate the "tear-down" ability on these? Are they designed to be glued, or do they slot together?

Beautiful tables, too. That skyscraper's a truly wonderous sight. (as a necromunda player I can't help but get a shrinking feeling in my...uhhh...gut... thinking about the height.)

Bonus points for creepy baby heads.

*edit*: Going back and looking again, they seem pretty well glued (plus the mention of wood glue with the picnic table). Apologies.
