    Rules of Arena of Death

The Arena is very simple to participate in: if you can play 40K, you can participate. Jubilation.

In the Arena, you enter a character of a set points value. Example, I sign up for a 100pt (Middleweight) arena contest. I then create a single 100pt or less character (unless the Challenge/Arena places restrictions). So, I might create a 100pt Eldar Farseer. Characters may be selected from any Warhammer 40, 000 army list except Harlequins. In addition, selected characters must have a Toughness value (ie, not be a vehicle).

Then, the 2 character face each other in a match played out by an impartial Roller. The rules are the same as normal Warhammer 40, 000 and use the following procedure.

    1. Movement. Very little happens in an AoD movement phase, save some psychic powers (such as Fortune and Veil of Time.

    2. Shooting. Fighters may opt to charge, or stand still and rapid fire/fire heavy weapons/shoot twice with pistol. If they chose to stand still, then they will lose any bonus confered by charging (such as the normal +1A, or the bonuses confered by Furious charge.

If both fighters opt to stand still, they will still both move into close combat once shooting is resolved. This will not confer the normal +1 attack or any other means.

Shooting cannot cause Instant death by a weapon’s Strength being double a character’s Toughness. However, special attacks such as a Wraithcannon’s ability to transport a target to the warp still can remove a character as normal. Shooting otherwise can only causes one wound per shot. Characters count as 6" away from each other in the shooting phase.

    3. Combat. Both characters count as charging, and fight to the death-all subsequent turns still consist of movement-shooting-combat as normal, so the psychic power Gift of Chaos may be used in the psyker's own shooting phase before close combat takes place.

If both contestants are taken out of action at the same time, the whole match is re-rolled.

Characters are usually selected from the HQ section of an armylist, though any model which may select items from the Armoury may be taken (such as a Veteran Sergeant). Special Characters, unless specifically stated, may not be fielded. The following count as Special Characters for this purpose:

    Space Marines
