    Cheers guys,

Korhedron-Are you talking from a gaming point of view?? I just prefer the look of it although this particular one is only temporary, borrowed from my Crassus project. think I'm going to use one from the dunecrawler kit, it looks more imposing.

I was talking more from a gaming POV, yeah; but T.B.H, I wasn't meaning you in particular; this seems to be a trend now, even with Imperial Knights....

@korhedron i see what you mean haven't noticed before,

after an enforced break with work and preparing a presentation for an interview, had a chance to get on with a little bit more detailing, this time on the 2nd aux crane. been playing with ideas for the hydrolic lines and have run the main parts in brass tube, still need to make the flexi hose between the sections. few quick images attached

So having completely failed on the flexi hoses, so spent the weekend on another project. Had this as a box of bits for a while so didn't take long to throw together. As a base is a 2 kids toy tractor trailer. Removed the wheels and installed bitspudlo tracks. Also replaced the crude cast hatch and installed a new hatch utilising left overs from a Russ kit. Scratch built a catwalk on top and then used the ladder of the baneblade kit on the rear of the tank section. Added an extra strap around the middle of the tank body and built a new tow bar that seems to fit better with the whole model. Rivet detail added to the main body but still have the draw bar to do but that along with the paint will have to wait till next weekend.

Are you putting another set of tracks on the front? It looks a little odd with just one set.

Hadn't planned on another set of tracks. Think with a coat of primer it make it look different. The original black chassis of the toy trailer is not that clear on the pic.
was building a generator with 2 sets of tracks but I've just won an old forgeworld one on eBay, so that project might get recycled into something else.

Love those hydrauliclines. To bad the flexible ones didnt work
Like the look of that trailer. You do need to add some sort of landing gear at the front so it can be disconected from the tractor and parked where its needed

    Cheers guys,

Kept looking at it thinking something's missing and you've hit the nail on the head there sdkfz. So with some nice weather last night, managed to primer the main body, then having read your comments, got working on the trailer jack/landing gear. Also shortens the drawbar as it just didn't quite look right.

Re: Craneblade. My first big conversion project

So another school holiday descends the house into chaos!!!!!!!! that being said i did mange a few broken hours over the last couple of days to detail the tank trailer draw bar. Also managed a quick convertion of an old robogear tracked thing thats been kicking around for a while, to a light weight automated tow vehicle to pull it.
As to colours Sdkfz, think the tow will get a used dirty yellow effect while the tank trailer red or maybe a dirty chrome, been looking to the internet for inspiration and am quite taken with the shiny tank wagons that keep popping up in my search result.

Re: Craneblade. My first big conversion project

    Thanks chap,

not the progress i'd hoped for this evening but haveing got the base colours on and a couple of washes the other night have gone round picking out some of the detail. the toe unit is coming on nicely but the banding on the tank trailer needs some more work and then I need to sort out some appropriate lettering for the side along with some warning/info panels.

Not bad at all once painted, still feel the tracks are to far back on the trailer.

I find that using the Imperial Vehicle Transfer sheet for large letters can provide the lettering you want, I have used them to make names and just random letters and numbers to name vehicles.

The neutral colour on the crawler looks right and I just realized that the red would indicate some flammable substance in the tank.

    Great stuff.

    Cheers,
