Those look very similar to the old Forgeworld ships. Nice pricing too. I just wonder how the quality is...

I've got a ship off Shapeways before (this guy does a great range). It was in Frosted Ultra Detail - which was good, though not as good quality as GW or FW BFG models are. You certainly wouldn't want to go lower quality than that. It's certainly usable though, and when painted up fits right into my fleet. Frosted Extreme Detail wasn't around when I ordered, but it's what I'd go with if I were to order again.

Yeah, you will want the highest quality from shapeways.
I don't know about these but a lot of models are also hollow on the underside to save money.

Why not play Firestorm or Dropfleet?

I got some frosted ultra detail ships from shapeways and I wasn't really happy with them. The designs are excellent but the printing lines were pretty clear when painted, and in the end I decided I couldn't use them. Others may disagree, but my opinion is that the frosted ultra detail isn't really up standard yet. haven't tried the frosted extreme detail though, it might be acceptable.

I hope they do get it to work, I think shapeways is a fantastic idea and there is some really excellent design work there, but for me at least I couldn't recommend it just yet.
