    The 597th & 14th ( armoured ) Valhallans...

After 2 year hiatus I'm starting my guard army again…

I've already got some of the 14th built using my Ragnarock pattern & Macharian pattern russes…

    Good stuff.

Everything needs a coat of mr Halfords best grey primer, seams & gaps sorted and then the painting can begin!

I feel the need to say how much Bungaroo's thread has inspired me, The Chimera is a direct copy of his pattern, and his use of the Hobby Boss 1:48 KV-2 directly inspired my "ragnarock" conversion!

    Its well worth a look…

    http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...ter-Detachment

I shall be borrowing heavily from the meme he so lovingly created, I hope he won't mind?

Likewise Glennings modernised classic Cadians, http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?367907 , inspired my updated Valhallans!

And last but not least, without Morts "Mortian" heavy tank, and his kind permission to let me use it as the base for my "macharian" pattern russ insert I'd probably never have started this whole thing…

Love it! Wish I had thought of this. The Perry 2nd edition IG are still my favorite IG sculpts. They're scaled better too. I might have to try this with the old Cadians or Tallarn. Which lasguns did you use? Loose lasguns from the Catachans?

Any catachan lasgun or the carbine from the tank accessory sprue, just cut & attach to the front of the metal lasgun...

Sweet job, minor details such as weapon upgrade and grenades really enhance the old models (and I agree, they look much cooler and are better scale wise than the newer ones). The tank conversions are especially cool!
Damn, kinda regret selling my steel legion now.

The machruss is a great conversion Love to see how it (and the rest of your army) turns out with some paint.
    Keep at it !

Paint! Surely not, conceal all that lovely conversion work!? Sounds like you guys know me of old… It's my achilles heel… It's not that I can't paint (I picked up 2 Golden Deamon UK's in the nineties), I just have a real fear of the "blank page/model" & I'm an arch procrastinator!!!

Re-followed your working thread. Still love that Macharuss conversion, man. Looks interesting a la Ryza. Love your conversion work on the Valhallans. If you need bits, you might look at Mad Robot's Kurgan Winter Guard line, it might lighten your wallet's screaming.

Thanks for all the praise guys...
Colonel, those GD's were 20 years ago, life & 2 wives have taken their toll, I've only successfully (to my eyes) painted one army (my necrons, I'll post some pics later) since then...

Sauragnmon, Still trying to get round to casting the Macharuss up... Been Looking at the Mad Robot tankers & forage capped Kurgans heads, I'll also be using the Statuesque Miniatures Heroic female heads to do another two squads of valhallans to mix & match as the 597th is a mixed sex unit! Also want to do Commissar Cain, but can't get a forge world salamander insert for "love nor money", could convert one, but just prefer the original!?

Your army sounds like a lot of fun Looking forward to seeing how the troopers will look.
On the salamander front, id say build it yourself. The ones that DO come out for sale are so overpriced that its just a shame, IMHO.
They arent that hard to do, i did a command version some time ago, turned out looking OK to me.
If youre OK with it, i can post a pic
