Flames of War - Japanese & Marine Painting Log - First Attempt = )

Hello all and welcome to the plog.

I have recently decided to get into Flames of War. I've picked up a bunch of Japanese and Marine figures and am planning to have some pacific battles with a friend.

This will be my first painting log so comments, criticism, and advice welcome and encouraged about both the painting and the blog itself.

The lists I'm planning on painting are:
Japanese - 1500 pt Hohei Chutai

Hoehei Chutai HQ - 175 pts
    - Regimental standard
    - Sniper team

    Combat Platoon x 2 - 360 pts each (720 pts)
    - 3 Rifle Squads
    - 2 Nikuhaku Teams
    - Banners

    Tank Platoon - 255 pts
    - 3 Type 97 Chi-Ha

Hohei Regimental Gun Platoon - 165 pts
    - Observer team

Hohei Rapid Fire Gun Team - 155 pts
    - 2 Type 1 47mm

    Marine Rifle Company 1500pts
Marine Rifle Company HQ - 55 pts

    Marine Rifle Platoon x 2 - 210 pts each (420 pts)
    - 2 Rifle Squads with BARs

Marine Tank Platoon - 500 pts
    - M4A2 Sherman

Naval Gunfire Support - 255 pts
    - Destroyer

    Air Support - 150 pts
    - Limited Air Support - F4U Corsair

    Anti-tank Platoon - 115 pts
    - 2 M3A1 37mm

I'm planning to paint the Japanese force first and then move on to the Marines. Hope you enjoy the plog =)

I don't see too much Pacific war stuff for any rule set so this is a welcome choice.*thumbs up*

Battlefront's models sure have come along way since they first started.

It would take me 2 weeks to get them done so I wouldn't even worry about it.

Also, semi-off topic, got up to some Axis and Allies over Easter weekend. About 15 hours of play resulted in a crushing axis victory which I made minor contributions to as a struggling Italian faction =P

I did a couple of bases of infantry with trees to break up the monotony of the grass. I also did some bases with just sand and maybe a tuft. Or a bit of grass transitioning into sand. I wanted to give the impression the company might be fighting on to a beach head (or attacking off of one) by having some with grass bases, some with a sand and some with a mix.

    Comments and criticisms welcome =)

Also a work in progress sniper for the force. I initially went for a spotter and sniper in a bunker/tunnel entrance made out of cut up toothpicks but it looked kind of goofy I thought, so I went for the sniper in a tree.

Very clever- I don't think I have seen anyone model a sniper in a tree before. *thumbs up*

Don't call it a comeback =P this blog isn't dead just extremely slow moving. Apologies for the blurry pictures, using my cruddy phone camera as opposed to previously when I was using my gfs slightly less cruddy phone camera.

Completed the Japanese force - rounded out with the HQ with Banner, 3 Chi-Ha, and the sniper in a tree.

Also started on the Marines. There are 4 bases there but I am about done with the first platoon - just finishing off the bases.
