12th Panzergrenadier Division - Yet another DK P-Log!

I've been meaning to start a project log for a long time. My plan has, like many of us, been to build a full sized Imperial Guard Division. What follows on this thread is my attempt at just that. Now please understand that I don't actually play 40k anymore I just enjoy modelling so naturally you will see things in this force that don't necessarily make sense rules or indeed backstory wise but what the hell, let's have some fun!

Ladies and Gentlemen I present the beginning of this project.
(About half the tanks and Infantry I have are on display here.... the others still need to be assembled)

The 12th Panzergrenadier Division 'The Devils Dozen'

Comprised of (to name a few)

    • 1st and 2nd Companies

    6th Panzer Battalion
    ('The Iron Sixth')

    • 2nd Platoon

    2nd Company
    Fallshirmjäger Battalion 594

    • 2nd Company

    110th Lancer Regiment

    • 2nd and 4th Companies

    179th Jäger Battalion
    ('The Black Cuffs')

So I've still got a long way to go....

I also have some of these going spare.... really don't need them wondering if someone who does want them might have some ordinary troopers to trade?

    savaaage,

Nice conversions on the Missile Launchers. Even better are how good Missile Launchers seem to be in 8th Edition.

    Cheers,

    CB

@ SDKFZ aye I got bored with not having missile launchers and the steel legion RPG really wasn't an option aesthetically. Hence the panzerschreck, think I'm gonna do some Panzerfaust's too.

@Captain Brown cheers man, gonna make an effort to keep updating this thread daily.

Got these beuts a few weeks back on the bay... beautiful work tinners! They need stripping and repairing but hey I love a challenge... watching this space.

    Nice tanks!
I'm interested in those seated Krieg if they are still available. I'm at work offshore at the moment but will be back on land July 6th. Anything particular or just more infantry?

Aye just more infantry ideally bud, not bothered if they're *ahem* recasts as I'm not entirely certain of the provenance of my guys having got them in a job lot on the bay. Don't need to be any special weapons or anything either.

1 of 3 vanaheim conversions, pleased with how this turned out... feel like it could do with some more sandbags (gun is removable to facilitate eventual stripping) gonna work on the crew this weekend.

Like how you have done the rear compartment and you have enough sandbags. I think you should re-look at the forward bolter I think its a bit to long. Probably need to cut the main body back more into the mount. Oh and I hate to say it you done one of my tricks the tracks are on the wrong way. You have enough sandbags. I like your take on the Basilisks.

aghh frack! So they are, though I can't take credit it was a second hand model. The HB I have to agree on.. thought it was too long as for the tracks nothing a good amount of mud and a set of track guards can't fix!

    savaaage,

Been there done that I feel the pain mate! Mate I did one with one track going one way and the other going the other way. It was my 30th vehicle. You need to pluck the tracks and put them on again the right way or it will drive you crazy. Trust me on that.

Dude I believe you thankfully I think they're on with superglue. Gonna have to go back and check all my other 2nd hand tanks now

Edit: thinking about it re the tread on the tracks. Does this mean leman russ' can't reverse? I know it sounds stupid as obviously they can but if the tracks should face the other way then surely they shouldn't work going forward in their current set-up, by the same reasoning they shouldn't work in reverse....

Re: 12th Panzergrenadier Division - Yet another DK P-Log!

It's more about the pull on the pin that joins the tracks which allows for the movement in the track. Tank tracks are built from modular chain links which together compose a closed chain. The links are jointed by a hinge, which allows the track to be flexible and wrap around a set of wheels to make an endless loop. The chain links are often broad, and can be made of manganese alloy steel for high strength, hardness, and abrasion resistance. This allows for forward and rearward movement.

Track construction and assembly is dictated by the application. Military vehicles use a track shoe that is integral to the structure of the chain in order to reduce track weight. Reduced weight allows the vehicle to move faster and decreases overall vehicle weight to ease transportation. Since track weight is completely unsprung, reducing it improves suspension performance at speeds where the track's momentum is significant.

Bugger me, a man used to know all this stuff. So ends the lesson savaaage my lad.
