    Photobucket Block and Solution

    Photobucket Block and Solution

So by now, you have all noticed the image block placed on Photobucket hosted images...which to put it bluntly makes your hard work in posting your PLOGs feel a bit of a waste. Fear not there is a way to get your images back up.

Saving/recovering your own pictures is quite straightforward (and fairly quick rather than trying to save each one individually). Log-in to your Photobucket Account and visit each Folder (including your main page which is a folder on it's own) and on the right hand side of your page there is this list:

Download your whole folder and then you have your image on your hard drive again and either move the images to another hosting site or use the upload function in the forum. You can do that my "Edit Post" at the bottom of each post and then select "Go Advanced" and from the menu above your post select the "Insert Image" icon (that is the little picture with the tree on it) and upload your image.

Special Thanks to member Karak Norn Clansman who provided this information and the image.

    Sincerely,

    Captain Brown

Welcome back everyone. Please check your old PLOGs and update photos that have been lost in the hack or Photobucket block.

Thanks Captain Brown. I'd like to add that once anyone is done salvaging his or her own images, please consider salvaging images from one or more inactive logs of particular quality and/or creativity on display. After all, inactive members can't save their own treasures, but some of them are very much in our interest to preserve nonetheless. The Hall of Heroes would be a good place to start.

If direct download from another's Photobucket albums is unavailable, consider copy-pasting into MS Paint/saving pictures to your computer, then post the salvaged pictures into the inactive member's thread or hear with staff members if a re-upload could be arranged. (Individual post-restoration is tedious, and a big photodump in first or last post without textual/log context is much better than nothing preserved at all.) Should anyone salvage the work of others in this subforum, please report here to avoid double-work. To anyone willing to help out with salvaging something from others: Some confusion and threadomancy should be expected, but we'd rather have that than a complete loss of Warseer's inherited treasures.

Also Google Photos is a good alternative to Photobucket https://photos.google.com

And here are my instructions on how to use it for your in post photos

Create the New Album in Google Photos
Then ADD Photos to album... on the top right when you do that you have the option to "Add Photos" then after you click that then again in the top right is the option "Select from computer" you choose that to upload any pics you have on your computer ( ex I downloaded all my old Photo Bucket Albums from PB and I am now in the process of making the albums on Google Photo so I am uploading the pics from the downloaded PB albums <after I unzipped them of course>).

Then to embed individual pics in your Warseer Plog just open the photo in your Google Photos album and then right click on the photo and select "Copy Image Address"

Then in your Warseer Post Select "Insert Image"

Then in the Insert Image window Click on the "From URL" Tab and paste the link in the URL box and make sure you UNCHECK "Retrieve remote file and reference locally"

Then click on OK and Post your reply then smile as your pic is now in your post.

My recommendation is Imgur personally, but I'd avoid Flickr too — Who knows how long Yahoo is going to be around....

As long as a Photobucket user has not locked their album it can be downloaded by others.

Oh, that's a very cool trick. Er... anybody else having problem with dowloading their folders? Photobucket tells me "something didn't click" or something cute like that.

    Re: Photobucket Block and Solution

Yes, I was able to get most of my folders, but Orks, Necromundians and a few others just would not download. I have just started downloading the images I did not have in my back-ups of and placing everything in PLOG specific folds, then transferring them to Imgur.

    Cheers,

    CB

    Re: Photobucket Block and Solution

While browsing the other day I came across this:

    http://www.network54.com/Forum/14967...This+Thread%29

It's a link to a Chrome and Firefox add-in that somehow completely bypasses Photobuckets ransomware attempts. Tested it with an older thread or two that used PB and it seems to work - albeit that I have no idea how long until PB catch on and close off whatever exploit it uses.

Thanks ModernKiwi for finding that option. Members who are using personal devices can make that, but if you are using a work device you might want to hold off.

    Re: Photobucket Block and Solution

Not sure how long before this gets blocked, basically Photobucket have replaced the link address destinations with their holding image, so they are essentially still third party hosting; if you go into edit post and adjust the code by inserting ~original between .jpg and [/img] as in .jpg~original[/img] then the original picture will show again...

I was switching to Imgur until someone pointed out this little bit in their T&C's:

"Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it."

    Re: Photobucket Block and Solution

    Thank you that information Ash.

Now that WarSeer has the Gallery working and you can start your own folders to store images again. This should also help protect your images instead of using third party hosts. You can even upload your images right from Photobucket over to WarSeer.

    Cheers,

    CB
