Re: December 2017 White Dwarf Feedback Thread

This issue comes with free stuff*.

New Quest adventures, and card game aids are nothing new for White Dwarf (historically speaking at least), but their inclusion is to be welcomed, I guess.

Slightly concerning is that this issue is the 'first part', which doesn't necessarily bode well given White Dwarf's past excesses when it comes to breaking up content. ~flashbacks to Fantasy civil war rules~

Unrelated; thanks to the release of Necromunda, this would have been the best opportunity for about a decade to include Fistmas related content (who doesn't want updated rules for Phanta Claws?!)...

*Well, it's not really free, is it? But still...

Re: December 2017 White Dwarf Feedback Thread

I will start with some first impressions & random thoughts then once I've finished reading the mag I will post again and offer a score.

First up...what is going on with the goliath on the front cover? He seems to have some kind of metal boob support going on. That design is just plain crap, it would be uncomfortable & awkward to wear as well as pretty much pointless...Wow, those harlequins are orange!...Cool AoS aelf warband in Blanchitsu, Aos actually looks gritty...The illuminations section seems to be a visual representation of AoS, kinda looks cool at first but on closer inspection is just a kinda indistinct blur lacking in much detail...Free rules and cards, don't care as no intention of playing those games...The 40k armies look like EPIC armies of old, not a good thing to my mind...Necromunda game = DETAIL-EVERYWHERE!!! Kinda hard to see what's going on in those pics...LOTR battle report (well Hobbit) that'll be interesting to read...No matter how lethal that Witch Aelf is she's gunna get double hammers in the face!...Angry librarian...Temporal Distort or look how good WD used to be!...Nurgle trundle truck...Smug-grin Dark Angel is wrong...less than a page for designers notes on 2 codexes? Wow, good effort guys...Cash-In Approved oh I'm sorry I mean Chapter Approved.

Oh yeah and I have finally realised what I don't like about the new Necromunda minis...most of the newer minis actually...they look less like real people and more like video game characters. Turning one or two elements up to 11 is cool but everything turned up to 11 is too much and kinda drowns everything out.

That's an interesting note, I have really gone of GW miniatures for a few years now, my main issue has been the unnecessary detail, with stuff just going on everywhere. Think you put it more eloquently.

Re: December 2017 White Dwarf Feedback Thread

    So...I gave this months WD a 3.

The bits I found of interest were...

    • Hobbit Battle Report - The only battle report I managed to read as I gave up on the others. This actually made me a little sad that Fantasy didn't end up using the LoTR rules. Though on the whole I prefer the aesthetic of LoTR to Hobbit.
    • AoS Blanchitsu - A lovely thematic warband, if only AoS has this aesthetic rather than the computer-game-on-steroids look.

That means that out of 166 pages I enjoyed 14 pages...thats less than 10% of the content...hmm not great. Maybe I should have given it a 1.

Was the new Quest adventure thing they included a complete set of rules, Lost Egg?

I'm not really sure what I'm looking at to be honest. There are rules for mercenaries and something about visiting Cinderfall as well as a map for the Temple of Slaughter.

Re: December 2017 White Dwarf Feedback Thread

I've never played Warhammer Quest but it kinda looked like a mission / scenario thing-a-jig.

As I've said before I kinda think my GW hobby has now devolved into just keeping an eye on what they do and hoping that they'll start making something I like again. Though having said that I am collecting (slowly) a very small patrol of Primaris. Buying WD seems to be the only regular purchase I make anymore...

It's a new dungeon and some additional rules - and cards - for WHQ Hammerhal. So if you own that game, it's nifty. If not, you won't really know what it's good for.
