    Idoneth Deepkin previews

GW have put up some interesting information about this new Age of Sigmar faction over the past week, and perhaps its just that the brief background description makes them sound like Drukhari/Dark Eldar of the sea, but I've been quite liking what has been revealed.

Now we have previews of some of the models out this week:

Whilst this isn't the fishmen faction I had always hoped for/joked about by the community, I like how clean and unfussy the models are. I can already see myself getting some of the infantry.

What do people think so far?

Well, the water cloak guy isn't Teclis after all, and of course he's larger than life.

If this trend goes on then Warhammer can no longer credibly claim to be 28mm scale. Oh, and apparently he's called Eidolon of Mathlann. That's another Elven god that mysteriously makes an appearance in AoS. I thought the Elven gods all died during the End Times? What was the point of blowing up the setting again? Oh, I forgot, it was pointless.

I just wanted to point out that he apparently for some reason comes with a miniature Dunkleosteus. It's a long-extinct genus of Placoderms who used to be as large as a bus. Apparently Mathlann's pet is a baby fish. It looks cool, it's just... odd. Very odd. Like all of AoS. Wouldn't a prehistoric creature fit more with the Lizardmen theme?

Oh, and what I would give to have an Octopus that carries all my stuff while still having enough free arms to bludgeon my enemies on the side. It's priceless!

Update: Today's post literally confirms that the Idoneth Deepkin are worshipping a dead god. Seems kinda pointless to me, but hey, whatever floats their boat (pun intended).

In the new WD I like the way they keep saying the Mathlann mini isn't an Avatar...it just kinda looks like an avatar and kinda sounds like one...but its not...honest...

I like the boat- that has potential to be a cool piece if properly worked into a themed board. The only problem is the living fish attached to some parts- the 'aether sea' seems like bad fluff to me, and the fish will have to be filed off for any other context. It's a shame they didn't make all fish optional, like the majority seem to be.

I dislike everything else I've seen or heard of the fish elves.

I probably wouldn't start an army of these guys but I'm loving what I've seen so far. The Eidolon is stunning and technically impressive and I'm definitely picking up that guy with the octopus to use as the basis of a conversion.

I love how weird the new factions are - can't wait to see what GW puts out next!

Same here. Decent to very good ideas, excellent execution. Not sold on the main concept, mixing wood elf "good but get-offa-my-lawn!" theme with corsairs and beastmasters, we already had Athel Loren army in Lustria campaign that could field a Merywyrm. They could have expanded on that (and release decent HE core troops after 15 years, dammit).

Still, there is much potential for conversions.

Oh, and hello after over three years!

Great, more news, just the right place on this forum

Regarding the new miniatures, let's say they are well modeled. With some exceptions, the cloak so many praise to me looks like a huge design mistake. It was added to make the figure more expensive which was the first mistake and the second one was to make it unstable. No matter the connection points, with the mass that high up it gets top heavy even in plastic. So it will tumble and break, just a matter of time. Sure, large base and so on, to me it is still a chain of bad design for purpose and sadly on purpose.
With the other characters my main issue is the faces, none of it matches. I do accept that this unites 3 factions from the old world in a away, but big eyes, small eyes.

I do praise them for trying something new, but this range to me is all over the place and the background is just YAWN, that is dark eldar reloaded with silly "magic did it".

One is an ancient, calculating, cunning, self-serving, soul-craving monstrosity that came back from the dead.

    The other is a Vampire.
