    1500-point Chaos fleet

Alright, here's my first shot at a BFG Chaos fleet, the final version of which will be my Firebase article entry.

    Chaos 1500 Fleet

    Desolator-Class Battleship-400
    -Chaos Lord (Ld 9)
    Repulsive-Class Grand Cruiser-230
    Slaughter-Class Cruiser-165
    Slaughter-Class Cruiser-165
    Murder-Class Cruiser-170
    Devestation-Class Cruiser-190
    Carnage-Class Cruiser-180
Glory, glory, what a hell of a way to die,
With a rifle in your hand and you're falling through the sky,
Glory, glory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!

I prefer the 13th Black Crusade list over the standard blue-book chaos list, since its characters will reliably add to the leadership of their vessel.
But if you do stick with the blue-book list, I'd downgrade him to an Ld8 warmaster. You can use the points elsewhere.
    Repulsive-Class Grand Cruiser-230
"Elsewhere" being right here. Repulsives are better when equipped with their range & shield upgrades. This will take up 25 of the 50 points your warmaster downgrade freed up.
    Slaughter-Class Cruiser-165
    Slaughter-Class Cruiser-165
    Murder-Class Cruiser-170
    Devestation-Class Cruiser-190
    Carnage-Class Cruiser-180
These are fine. It's hard to go wrong with chaos cruisers.

On the whole, the list looks a bit light on attack craft. This won't make it unplayable, but will definitely put you on the defensive against enemy ordnance.

If you want to amend that weakness, you can spend that last 25 points to upgrade a Slaughter to a Devastation. Or you can just have fun, tolerate the weakness, and give your warmaster the Mark of Slaanesh.

    A bit light on escorts?

That fleet does actually look quite intimidating, it'll sure pump out some damage!

Sorry to ressurect the thread, but what upgrades are these? The only ones mentioned in the book are the increase of the dorsal lances to 45cm for 10 points.

I'm fiddling a chaos list right now, but i think i'll be having a few daemonships...

slaughters work best in pair, would not change this.

    another devastation would be nice
maybe exchange another cruiser for it

Repulsives originally came with small bases and 2 shields. When the Vengeance-classes appeared, the studio apparently decided to make 3 shields & large bases the new norm for grand cruisers.

So in one of the FAQs, they gave Repulsives the opportunity to increase their base size & pay 15 points to get a 3rd shield.

Edit: If you want to keep both Slaughters, upgrading the Murder to a Devastation instead would be fine. Murders have always struck me as rather awkward ships. Great frontal weapons, great side weapons, but since their arcs don't overlap, the poor ship is constantly forced to attempt to engage two enemies at once.

    Dorsal lances > prow lances.

Well, you see, the Murder and it's bigger brother the Hades are line breakers. Ram them down the enemies throat firing all the way with the lances (typically effected much less by bracing than batteries in my experience) an once you're into their formation let rip with the gun batteries - at least, that's the way I use them...

I once, in a Escalating Engagement game, had a squadron of two Murders, a Hades and a Styx sail onto the table right in the path of a Necron Tombship, the subsequent barrage of ten lance shots all but crippled the tombship there and then...
