Yeah I enjoy the LOTR articles. They're more hobby related than most of the magazine....

I have leafed through it in WH Smith. And I have found absolutely nothing to convince me to part with 4GBP. The Wh40k section is just a spacefiller.

Re: UK White Dwarf 307 feedback

I'll usualy read the white dwarf over the course of a day, maybe two. But this one didn't have a great deal of the articles I was interested in so it took me over a week to trawl through it.

The dwarf and amazon background articles were pretty decent, but there wasn't anything else of note for warhammer. As somebody else noted above, in the current tale of X gamers you don't actually get to see the armies the guys have made, which makes it kind of useless.

The 40K section had nothing in it that appealed to me though I've come to expect this playing necrons and still waiting for them to re-do eldar. I imagine it'd be a nice issue if you had nids and the articles in there are pretty much what you'd expect when a new army is released, basic tactics and modeling articles.

The battle report was rather poor, it looked like it was trying to be an inquisitor battle report, being rather small scale and both players doing things because they thought it would "look cool" which doesn't come over well in a magazine article. The article would have been much better if it had used a narrative style rather than just, "I scored a 2, which wasn't too bad" which is rather dull when kill team games can't be used to demonstrate 40K tactics, they'd have been much better off just telling a story IMHO.

The LOTR section would have been good if I'd played LOTR and wanted to participate in the summer's campaign, so nothing to complain about there. The LOTR section’s here to stay for the foreseeable future, no point continually grumbling about it taking up space. Giving up some of its space once in a while to specialist games article or two wouldn't break my heart too much though.

Yeah, I prefer regular toilet tissue too, the coloured sheets are a bit rough, and the covers...ouch.

Actually I am happy with it for one reason.

There were no Space Marines. Yay! Yay!

    A dream comes true...
"Remember this men, pain fades, ladies appreciate scars, Glory lasts forever! Charge!"

    - Colonel Rhiannon, to the 525th Preatorian regiment at the the Battle for Hades Hive, Armageddon II.

“Yes, I was at the battle of Haven IV. Yes, the battle was between the Tau and the T’rnath. And yes, I am neither Tau nor T’rnath. So you ask on which side was I? I was on the side of being paid money to fight”

    - Rogue Trader Reinecke to Inquisitor Pieter North, shortly before the latter’s demise.

Usually I read them just because I paid for them, but this time - campaing stuff and nothing else. Horribly boring.

Its important to remember that we have Fanatic to act as a magazine/webzine for all the Specialist Games, and it succeeds at that goal. No point in adding more articles to White Dwarf. What would be a really good idea, would be to buy out The Last Alliance (a huge-mega LoTR website jam-packed with hobby and gaming articles), and use it to advertise LoTR, take some of the material, jam it into Battle Games in Middle-Earth and vacate LoTR from White Dwarf.
