    Reviving The Horde

    Intro
    Hi all,
For a while now I've been dipping in and out of Warhammer, keeping up to date with Warseer and GW releases, but not really finding any time to make or paint anything. However 2 days ago a friend came round, out of the blue, and gave me my first fantasy battle. I used my hordes of chaos army that, sadly, has fallen into massive disrepair. After the battle (a solid draw) I decided that it was about time I fixed up and carried on my army to 2000 pts. The army is going to be mainly mortal with some beastman and daemon elements, aswell as a couple of units of DOW Ogres.

    EDIT

    Completion List
    5 Chosen Knights
    25 Marauders
    5 Warhounds
    Chariot of Chaos
    8 Furies
    Beastherd
    5 Mounted Daemonettes

    Chaos Giant
    5 Marauder Horsemen (2 of 5 made)
    4 Chaos Ogres
    Lord Of Chaos
    Exalted Champion
    Sorcerer of Chaos
    Brayshaman

    15 Chosen Warriors

    Key
    Need To Buy
    Unassembled
    Incomplete/Needs Renovation
    Ready to Paint
    Finished

    /EDIT

The unit I’ve chose to start with is a unit of chaos marauders to combat my friend’s pesky dark riders that almost cost me that fateful battle.

Pictures of the standard bearer are below ( I apologise for my picture taking ability in advance):

    Front 1

This is the rider, he’s made from wood elf glade rider legs, hooded head and arms with a dark elf warrior body and a cut down Saurus shield. I’ve used greenstuff to sculpt on a cloak and fur around his shoulders. However I’m not at all happy with the cloak and I need to do another layer of GS on it to smooth it and add ridges etc.

    Front 2

Standard Bearer Mounted. I used Milliput to sculpt armour on the horses head, hopefully to give a complementing look to the armour already present on the horses head. I used 300 grit wet and dry to smooth this out.

    Side

View of the left side. This shows the cloak and fur better.

    Back

A better view of the fur

    Standard

This is the metal marauder horseman standard that fits surprisingly well here

    Horse Tail

I sculpted this from greenstuff, starting with a sausage and gradually rolling it so it becomes thinner and tapered at one end. I need to do some filling on it at the base where it joins the horse.

I am gonna build a unit of five of these fellas, I’ve already made a start on the champion who is currently ‘armless (sorry couldn’t resist):

    Right

That's a damn fine looking conversion. Have you thought about the alignment of your force? That guy looks either Tzeentchian or Slaaneshi.

    Looking forward to seeing more.

It's a slaaneshi force, ive always found slaanesh more attractive when it comes to Fantasy. I'll be updating soon, just need to find my camera.

    Thanks for the encouragement Bronka

    Re: Reviving The Horde

    Time for an Update:

Built a glaive/spear thingy for the champion:

The champion currently looks like this:

I've also started converting the second horse of the unit, which will probably be the champion's. Pic below:

I rolled out a tail again, finding it much easier this time than last. I've used a milliput box to prop up the tails both times now. It's at a very convenient height, holding the tails up to make them look windswept.

    Axeman

I converted this guy using the axe stuck in a log from the bretonnian peasants box (cant remember whether its archers or men at arms). I used a knife to shape the blade after cutting it out of the stump and the stuck it into the hand of one of the glade-rider bowstring pulling arms. Unless you havent noticed he's meant to be throwing the axe. I may give him a shield, javelin or another axe in the other hand, im undecided as yet, any suggestions?

    Musician(sorry for the bad pic)

This models going to have the spiral horn from the glade riders in her right hand, and im thinking of giving her a shortbow in her left.

Ive been thinking of buying some clay/colour shapers, for help with GSing. however I dont know whether the colour shapers work as well as the clay shapers (i can get colour shapers a few quid cheaper than clay shapers). Has anyone got any experience with them?

    Cheers

    Re: Reviving The Horde

This is looking really cool, I love the way you mix plastics to create a unique unit.

one tip though: you might want to have a paperclip armature for the tails or they might break off. The clip, bent to the right shape, would just make it stronger.

    Keep it up!

Ive Decided to do a 2500 pt army. The list can be seen below:

    Lord Of Chaos 370 pts
Wargear: Whip of Pleasure, Sceptre of Domination, Crimson Armour of Dargan.
    (95 pts)
Mount: Steed of Slaanesh (40 pts)
    Mark of Slaanesh (25 pts)

    Heroes
    Exalted Champion 176 pts
Wargear: Great Weapon, Shield, Bindings of Slaanesh (56 pts)
    Mark of Slaanesh (20 pts)

    Sorceror of Chaos 190 pts
Wargear: Lv. 2 Upgrade, Power Familiar (85 pts)
    Mark of Slaanesh (20 pts)

    Core
    15 Chosen warriors 408 pts
Additional hand weapons, Shields, Full Command, Mark of Slaanesh, Rapturous Standard

    20 Marauders 205 pts
Great Weapons, Light Armour, Shields, Full Command

    5 Marauder Horsemen 130 pts
Spears, Throwing Axes, Shields, Full Command

    Special
    10 Furies 150 pts

    Beastherd 225 pts
20 Gors with two hand weapons, Full Command
10 Ungors with spears and shields

    Rare

    Chaos Giant 225 pts
    Mutant Monstrosity

    2079 pts

That’s all ive decided on so far. Id like to include a DOW OK unit, but im undecided between the following:

    4 Leadbelchers 240 pts
    Thunderfist, Bellower

    4 Ironguts 262 pts
    Bull Standard, Full Command.

    3 Maneaters 270 pts
Heavy Armour, 2x Cathayan Longsword, 1x brace of handguns

I’d still have points left over after this which I’m not sure what to do with. I’ve thought up the following options to include:

    1. Beastman Brayshaman
    2. Another Marauder horseman unit
    3. A small unit of chaos trolls
    4. A Bestigor herd
    5. Mounted Daemonettes

    Any suggestions?

    Re: Reviving The Horde

    Time for an update again.

Didnt have much time today, spent alot of time in town with my nan. ive done some milliput work on the two horses i have under construction. Photos Below:

    Standard Bearer Horse

added some metal plates to the side of the horses neck, i think i may do a similar thing with all of the steeds.

    Champion's Horse

cleaned up the head and added a helmet, still needs sandpapering/ carving.
Im hopefully gonna get some more work done on these tonight if i can.

    C&C welcome

    Orni

EDIT: just for fun here's a snapshot of my exalted champion that i'll be stripping, tidying up and repainting after my marauders are made. Although hes fallen into a state of disrepair (sword hand snapped of) I did manage to get in the second round of last years UK golden daemon with him. any way heres my exalted Champion Shy'Ash:

    Re: Reviving The Horde

    Update
    Hi
Got waylaid on my finish the boring horses before starting another rider plan and did some more work on the axeman. Pics below:

    Front

I used the champions head from the wood elf warhawk riders. i really like the motion it adds to the model.

    Left

The left arm is a sword arm, i simply cut the sword away and stuck on an axe which is a bretonnian accessory like the other though slighty smaller.

    Right

    Top

I really need to work on horses tomorrow, ive only got 1 thats remotely finished ( the standard bearers) that im using to test all of the riders on.

    Night

    Re: Reviving The Horde

Okay time for another update. Have'nt managed to get any work done today, partly because my dad went off to hospital after severing a tendon in his finger on his band saw , and partly because my mate came round again for a battle . It was a strong win to me, with my ogres taking out his unit of Dark elf crossbowmmen in one turn and my chosen doing the same to his corsairs. However I have decided on my army list, which I've attached as a word document to save space. I decided on the ironguts and a bray shaman in the end, just to add a bit of variety. Using this I've made a completion list, which I'll include here and in my first post. ok here it goes:

    Completion List
    Beastman Brayshaman
    20 Marauders
    10 Furies
    Beastherd

    Chaos Giant
    Lord Of Chaos
    Exalted Champion
    5 Marauder Horsemen
    Sorceror of Chaos
    4 Ironguts

    15 Chosen warriors

    Key
    Need To Buy
    Unassembled
    Incomplete/Needs Renovation
    Ready to Paint
    Finished

Here's a sneek peek of one of my incomplete ironguts as well:

    Re: Reviving The Horde

i like your putty work on the ironguts, and your marauder horsemen are very creative, similar to alot of dark rider conversions!
re: your list, i think you need more solid infantry blocks, so i'd say go for a unit of 15+ slaangors w/ std, mus
and for your OK unit i'd say go with the ironguts, but drop the champ, +20pts for another attack is questionable

    Re: Reviving The Horde

Thanks for he advice meowser. ive posted my army list in the fantasy army lists forum here so i can see what other people think aswell. i think youre right about the champ though, 20 pts is a bit excessive for one attack, especially as ws3

Wow I love the conversion work Ornithoticus, especially on the Chaos steeds. The green stuffing looks very nice. I like the look of the the converted champion too, he looks very cool.

    Thanks for the encouragement .
The boyz: I'll be redoing the champ with the rest of the army. I'm gonna strip him and take the symbol off his chest. Then I'll use my new milliput skills to neaten (sp?) up the breastplate, before applying a cast of the slaanesh symbol thats on his chest atm without the big circly thing.
