    Imperial Guard Tank Question

Now I'm sure I've heard the answer to this before, but I wanted to clarify once and for all.

Since the newest iteration of the Guard codex only has the Basilisk, Russ, and Demolisher available as the Heavy Support choices, does this mean that the Griffon, Vanquisher, and Exterminator are no longer allowed as they were and instead must be used via Imperial Armour entries?

I.E. They must be used via opponent's consent or they can be fielded as any other Heavy choice.

    Thanks.

Technically yes, however there stats are in the armoured company rules via the GW website. If its a tourney, I would check with the person running it.

You dont need your opponents permission to use things from IA. Its all official GW approved stuff.

I don't think anyone would make a fuss in a one-on-one game though....unless you're fielding a Marauder or Baneblade or something.
Some tournaments disallow IA vehicles and rules though, so before making your armylist, confer with the organisation

Any of the tanks from the old codex do not require your opponents permission to use, although abviously you'd do better to ask first just to get the arguement out of the way. This is only true of the tanks from the old codex though so you still need permission for many of the vehicles featured in IA.

Where did you get this from?

The fact is that you need a sort of permission to use anything. To be more exact - your opponent has to be aware of what he is about to face. You cannot hide from him that you will be using IA (and furthermore - if you are using flyers) anymore than you can hide from him the army you play with.

Is it specifically said in the rules that superheavies (more than 1 structure point) need the opponent's consent as they form a detachment of their own, thus allowing your opponent to field more than one (and have, for example, 6 heavy support choices).

He probably got it from Pete Haines' comments on the IG codex that where published in WD along with those of the other designers after the codex came out. He mentions that players should feel free to use the old tanks if they like. Although its hardly a 'rule' per se.

I very much dought that anyone would have a real objection to playing against any of the old tanks, although asking is nice for the sake of manners, although the IA rules are idential and pretty much offical stampted outside of tourments if you really want a rulebook behind you. (Same trick can be used to field the old weapon arms on SM dreads)

Incidently Nurglich, don't double post. Its bad mm-kay, not to mention all the hard work and effort that went into putting an 'edit' button at your disposal only for you to ignore it.
