    Hivefleet Blitzkrieg-2k points

    This was pasted from Dakka Dakka. My post had 73 hits and no replies. Not much <3 for Dakka anyway, is why I am happy to have found my old Portent area again cus this place is rather nice.

    Ok, after the new release of this army, I have upgraded what I had (about 1k pts), to around 2k (technically its 2018 to fit my Marine army). I have many many Spore Mine models and really wanted to use them. It also fits the fluff that this is an army that hits hard and fast, then fades away (hence all the spore mines). So, I know people have certain feelings towards them here, just keep in mind this army wants to find ways of maximizing the potential that they have (that and I have about 30mines so I want to use as many as possible in my games). So, here is my army list, feel free to constructively criticize and support any comments with some personal opinions and also statistical data.Thank you.

    HQ
    -Krieg Tyrant aka Skull F*cker. (if you saw this awesome model, you would understand the name the IG gave this thing ^^ ; ) :
    scything talons/rending claws/winged(WIP still)/tox miasma/toxin sacs/I+WS glands/warp scream
    174pts

    -Blitz Tyrant (my newer model)
    enhanced senses/ext carapace/tox sacs/Venom Cannon/TL Devourers
    174pts

    ELITE
    -Krieg Warriors
    I+WS glands/tox sac/ext carapace+
    (2)scy talons x2= 33pts each
    (2) scy talons/rending claws=35pts each
    total: 136pts

    -Blitz Warriors
    enhanced senses/ext carapace/tox sac/scy talons+
    (1) venom cannon=41pts
    (4) death spitter=34 pts each
    total: 177pts

    FAST ATTACK
    -Frag Mine Clusters
    (3) 3 frag mines=24 pts per cluster
    total: 72 pts

    HEAVY SUPPORT
    -(3) Bio Acid Biovores=55pts each
    total: 165pts

    -(2)Blitz Fex
    enhanced senses/barbed strangler/venom cannon/spore cysts/reinforced chitin/WS gland=172pts each

    TROOPS
    Genestealersx9=144pts

    Genestealersx8=128pts

    Blitzgaunt
    (28)spinefist=5pts each
    total:140pts

    Krieg Gaunt (hormogaunt)
    (28)WS gland/tox sac=13pts each
    total:364pts

    Army total: 2018pts
    Total # of models:approx 95 (I am sure its greater if the Mines stay alive)

    Now would it be better to split my troops of 28, into those of 14? This would allow me to spread my troops out more and cover more area. With 11 Synapse Creatures, I dont think it would be a problem. My only issue would be survivability........

    Again, please take into account how to maximize all the spore mines I have. I want to use these, as I have been using them for 3+ years and really enjoy them. Any tips/comments/constructive criticism is appreciated. Thank you.

    About your squads, I think you should keep them at 28 models each. This has not just to do with survivability, but a squad that large has a psychological effect on your opponant. No Space Marine commander would be at ease with the idea of 28 gaunts closing in on his front lines.

    I really like the biological warfare theme though and I believe it could work pretty well.

    Oh, and one more thing... It's spelled "krieg."
    Thud is the new black!

    Re: Hivefleet Blitzkreig-2k points

    Actually I am not a fan of really big squads and I would not go with more than 20 models per squad (and not even that for hormagaunts).
    First reason ist your deployment. More squads with fewer models are themselves easier to deploy and enable you to deploy your most essential models (like HT) late, when your opponent perhaps doesn`t even have anything more to deploy (depending on the army).
    Second reason: Your opponent has to split his fire. If you have fewer squads that all have greater numbers the fire can be better concentrated on those. Thus, they probably do not survive longer than a greater number of smaller squads.
    Third: Movement is easier to handle. Also, you are better able to react to the enemy since you have more squads to move around.
    Third reason: For gaunts: shooting. You will encounter many situations where you will not be able to shoot with all gaunts just because some of them are out of range or don`t have line of sight. the smaller the squad the lesser problems you have regarding that. for hormagaunts: even with leap you will have problems getting the whole squad near enough to use all attacks (especially in round one and against armies with high point costs per model). A plus is your higher chance of outnumbering the enemy, though, so you have to choose what suits you best.

    Just my two cents, after all it is you decision and you should try both to see what suits your style of play.

    I like big squads, its easier to keep squads in synapse. also rending claws on a tyrant you will be denying armor svs any way, and you dont need 3d6 + 6 for Ap, 2d6 +6 is fine.

    Re: Hivefleet Blitzkreig-2k points

    Thud: thanks for the correction on "krieg" , I had a feeling something was amiss. Yeah, this army does quite well and the ability to use the mines saves me many times.

    Thud/Eldaron:Also, I am intending on using the large masses of troops when I play on Defense Missions, and split them when I go on Offense Missions. Mainly, as defense, the large swarms can spread out and bog down more enemy units and Offensively, I can spread them all out and split the enemies fire, seeing as how I have 11 Synapse Creatures ^^ ;

    Blitz589: The rending claws are part of the Mural base I have set up for my Tyrant(after finding out MC's use larger bases, I had to attatch a bigger one to the small one that came w/the model in 3rd Ed). With Skull F*cker, it has an Ultramarine's head impaled on its spiked cod piece (my version of Implant Attack pre 4th Ed), with the rest of its body lying limply at its feet. In its Rending Claw is another unfortunate marine awaiting the same fate as its brother. Except, this Marine wont go down w/o a fight, he is courageously looking the Tyrant in the eyes and holding a Plasma Gun, pointed straight at its face. It took me along time to actually get what I envisioned in my head to come out in real form. Still not sure if I should actually get the wings still, I may try something different if I can get a good effectiveness at the same points cost.

    So, as it stands, I am up for suggestions on what to include if I left the wings/Psychic Scream/Miasma off the Tyrant. I do know I want Implant Attack and Warp Blast, but not sure what else to toss in(bio plasma maybe). Remember, I would like it to be exactly the same cost as the winged one w/only taking off the wings, scream, miasma.

    I appreciate the input. ^^ ;

    *Just had a brainstorm now that Old One Eye is back w/some really nice changes. I was thinking of making a Carnifex equivalent to One Eye, but at 172 pts. This would then complete my army theme of half being shooty and half being choppy. I will post some ideas of a 172pt hth/regen/crushing claw/spore cyst Fex later on. (unless someone has a book on them and does the math ^^ ; )
