Wow those are some seriously nice Chaos Warmaster models, and the speed with which you painted them makes it even more impressive!

And to answer your question what was next for me - I did a little bit of painting on the Greeks, every brushstroke was a chore, so I decided to assemble the plastic chaos giant instead.![]()
Very good work here, as always.
Black, red and steel is really a cool scheme for chaos !

@tancrede: Thank you.
@Saulot: Cheers mate. Might be due to the annoying reorganisation of the painting logs or the lack of time I have to look at other logs but I think I haven't seen you around for quite some time.
Anyhoo, here's a pic of my painting table at the moment.
At least the 20cm² I actually use and which aren't crammed with painting pots. I really need to find some new way to store them. My little painting rag got way too small with all these new washes, an increased number of VMC paints and so on.
Still fiddling around with the lava effect because I'm not quite happy with it it at the moment. My thoughts on the so much hated plastic giant kit (we all remember the not-so-subtle WD adverts): It's got the tons of extra bits that I was promised. I was kinda impressed with how clever they did the legs.
The plastic chaos hounds are very good as well. The design is a tad silly but it's chaos and highly fantasy-ish so it's okay. The detail is phantastic and due to the way the moulds are designed, there's hardly any mould lines at all. I also had a look at the chaos knights sprues - boy, are they impressive. HUGE improvement over the annoyingly boring 6th edition chaos knights. And they're so huge! It's quite sick. I also unpacked and washed the chosen chaos warriors and those really surprised me. From the pictures I knew, they looked kinda like "the odd unit" to me. The one nobody buys and which are basically just some test minis by a new sculptor. And how wrong I was. These chosen are not only BIG, they are also very detailled, and just look fearsome. Looking forward to painting those if only I could find the drill bits I bought...
Anyhow, that's hardly news to you but I seldomly get my paws on really new plastic kits and GW did a great job on those so I was quite impressed.
I'm not sold on the lava bases. The effect on the whole army will be like a lot of tiny rivers, while the realistic thing would be one big river, and then just dry ground beside it.
The skin of the giant seems to be going well.

The lava bases have a good visual impact, whether or not it's realistic that it flows that way. Hounds and giats look good so far and I look forward to seeing what you do with all those new chaos models.

The giant looks very promising, also quite dark compared to your more recent painting. (Yeah, I know that's just because of the black undercoat. Still I didn't expect it.)
I like it.![]()
@mrtn: I see your point and agree but lava bases just couldn't really work armywide if they were made to be realistic.
@Solum Decius: Thanks.
@Gargobot: I just started with a quite dark shade of skincolour and then layer up from there to lighter shades. Apart from that, the customer wants a quite dark and muted colourscheme.

That giant is looking so so nice! the bases work so well with it!
i dont know what else to say, keep up the amazing work man, its going to look brilliant when its all together!
i only wish i could do decent bases myself!
cheers and lovely cragum
Really good looking mini (?) sigur, especially the back looks lovely so far. I'd recommend you to work a lot with green/red/purple glazes on the face to make it more expressive, the sculpt lends itself to such a treatment.
The base is great, too

Hi Sigur, I've just stumbled across your blog while looking for some Warmaster inspiration and I must say I'm thoroughly inspired and raring to get going painting my own WM Chaos army.
Would you mind giving me an idea of how you went about painting those Chaos Warriors? A rough recipe for the metal, red and bone would be an immense help - it seems I'm pretty good at getting paint in the right place but picking colour schemes is something that constantly eludes me...
Thanks for any advice - L.
I really like this thread! Great work with the dark elves, By the way a question if i may, do the cold one's come from the older cold one knights or do you have the most recent cold one knights mounted on the cold one's from the cold one chariot?![]()
@Cragum: Thanks a lot.
@Toschenko: Thanks for the suggestion on the face, I'll give that a try. Used a little blue wash on it so far.
@Saulot: Ah, so I was right. Last time I remember seeing you roaming the internets was on druchii.net, but I stopped going there about two years ago so...
@levinas: I know the problems with picking colour schemes. I always find that quite hard as well. Here's how I do chaos warriors: Black primer, boltgun metal, black wash, mithril silver highlights on metallics. Reds: VMC Hull red base, one or two layers of highlights with mixes of hull red and blood red, final highlights with blood red, possibly followed by highlights of dwarf flesh or bleached bone or whatever you fancy. Bone: Dheneb stone base, shade with devlan mud at the base if you like, highlight with skull white.
@captian Maklai: thanks, I hope you subscribed. ;-) As for the cold one Knights, I always used them as "intended", so 6th edition CoK on 6th edition cold ones, and the few 7th edition CoK I have are mounted on their 7th edition lizards. I don't think that the new cold one knights would even fit on the older lizards (which now are only to be found in the DE chariot kit).
Little update:
And we finally got the smoked-out wasp nest down from the attic and I got to make some pictures of the interor. Very impressive, alien stuff:
I hope you like the giant so far. :-)
The Giant is shaping up nicely! The skin looks awesome, as do the muted colours on his trousers! And I must say I'm also not a fan of lava bases in general (at least for Fantasy), but yours look cool so far. They have a nice, smooth glow to them. Keep them coming!
Cheers,

@Monsterzonk: Thanks for the input. Glad you even like the lava bases. I can see why some people aren't too fond of them. Many times, they make everything look a bit overloaded but in some cases, with muted coloured minis for example, they can give the much needed contrast. By the way, I've had a look at your painting logs; impressive stuff. Do you play as well or just paint?
Speaking of contrast, I added some colour to the giant:
As you can see, some detailwork has begun. As much as I like bright colours, I tried my best to keep it down on this guy (as on the whole army).
As an unrelated thing, I think I might have bruised some bone of my left hand while trying to fend of the ruinous powers which makes painting a bit less fun but I guess that will be okay again in one or two days.
Hope you STILL like the giant, see you soon!
Ok thanks, and if i knew how to subscribe by now, i would have![]()
been a long time lurker of this log, and I just popped up to say "holy crud, crazy wasp-nest!" oh and nice giant!

Great work on the skin tone. It's a very unique and realistic color. I love it.
