you must have loads of time to paint...because you are going like a rocket...and such awesome quality...
would like to ask you if you could give me some pointers sometimes
in the meantime...ill be sucking inspiration out of your incredible résumé
May I ask what colours your using for your flesh and leather areas?
When did it become common knowledge sigur has both flesh and leather areas?
I miss Chris Farley.
@elflordminis: Thanks for the reply. It really depends on the miniature at hand. Do you have any specific miniature in mind I did recently?
@violenceha: I'm even more astounding than that! Did you know that the Sigur is the only creature that, apart from fleshy and leathery areas on top of areas overgrown with a very resilient overgrowth of fur and algea, doesn't only have dark and light meat but also a sort of recently unknown dark matter meat? That's one of the five reasons I'm banned from getting close to the LHC.
Anyways, time for an update.
Trying to finish the second batch of Empire troops this week which means finishing 10 Archers, a Warrior Priest, a Mortar and a Steam Tank. Of course we start with the archers and mortar crew to save the really fun stuff for later:
Apart from that....ho-hum....the weekend was pretty slow; didn't get anything done really. A bit on Friday but that was just 40k related things.
Speaking of related, here's something completely unrelated: Some days ago, I went to T.G.I. Friday's for the first time. For those of you who went there before - What's the prices like in your areas?
Alright, you notice that I don't really have much painting-related to say so...seeya later!![]()

Hi Sigur! It´s always a pleasure to look through your plog(s). But the chimera must be your best work so far! I especially adore the lion´s head - great painting and great COC!
Cheers,
Sen
Nice archers Sigur. As always I'm impressed with your ambitions for finishing stuff.
Re TGI Friday. I love the place and always try to squeeze in a visit when I can. Prices are high though. Like 25 euros for a main course. Did you get "robbed"?
@anselminus: Thanks!
@Seneca75: Cheers. Work on the Chimera is going sloooooowly because I just want to do this thing right. Not sure the customer likes that but I want to get the mini to look really good. I just can't think of what COC means at the moment.Cold Ones Chariot?
@samurai33: Cheers. It's mostly angry backlog-customers and -requests that whip me through the projects. As for TGIF - no, no didn't get robbed at all. I had a tremendous burger for like 13€ which is steep but okay to go to once in a while. It was the drinks that really made my bill get a little higher.
But it was basically two bday celebrations combined and the quality of food and drinks was good so I won't complain. I was just curious about the prices the charge elsewhere (especially in the US).
Well, here's the as-good-as-finished archers:
The feather on comrade Lenin's hat is still to finish as well as some finishing highlights here and there. I'll finish them tonight and hope to finish the Mortar crew as well.
See you soon!
COC=Choice of colours? That was what I thought anyway. Abbreviations can get really vague. Especially ones that aren't in common usage.
Archers are looking good Mr S. The state colours break up the mass of brown just enough without ruining their rustic camouflage.
Weakling humies.. But nicely painted humies! Man i would love to beat these guys with one of my armies.
Keep on rocking!
Cheers-Kaos

@Catferret: Thanks mate. I'm afraid I overdid the browns just a tad on those guys but in real life, they look a bit less like a brown mass.
@Kaos: Hehe, now I fear for these little guys. I guess it's time to get that steam tank rolling soon.
@Seneca75: Ah, right. I can't recall reading that abbrevation in years. Thanks anyway. As I said, I want to get the colours really right on this mini, hence the long time it takes.
Okay, sorry, I could have spared us the last update - the archers are finished now. I redid a bit more than I had planned but I like them quite a bit now. To make up for the heads on the state troopers, the faces and hats on these archers are terrific! It's a great mix of faces that are very reminicent of artworks of that time, some older faces and one face definately was sculpted after Lenin.I also love the outfits on those fellas. These little napkin-like things (sorry, can't think of a more proper term at the moment) around their necks and these hats indeed make for a more rural look and like they are simpler variations on traditional regional garbs which I really, really like. Empire armies are supposed to be colourful bunches after all.
Anyway, pictures:
I'm also happy to announce that the mortar crew is finished as well. I like those lads a lot because they have a lot of characters. I did some very small bitz swaps on those guys to make them look a bit different to other gun crews:
...and the last picture today is the first WIP of the Sigmarite warpriest:
Hope you like everything. Comments and critique are highly welcome as always and don't forget to visit Battle Brush Studios on Facebook!![]()
looking really good
be sure to take unranked photos when done ;-) - uhm - please![]()
Let me know what you'd like to see single pictures of and I'll do them.![]()
The flesh and leather used on the Empire Swordsmen more then anything. What colours, washes were used and in what order?
Great looking archers! If one of them is indeed looks like Lenin that would be hilarious. Is one of the mortar crew kitted up with a catachan head? They all look super as usual.
@elflordminis: For painting human flesh, I usually do a very light basecoat (I like to use Bleached Bone, Dheneb Stone, maybe some sand colour), add some heavy washes of either gryphonne sepia, devlan mud, leviathan purple or ogryn flesh wash mixed with some fleshy regular paint like tanned flesh, dwarf flesh, maybe some sandy colour as well, maybe some brown. It should still have the consistency of a very heavy wash but covering more evenly; kinda halfway between thin paint and a wash. Apply that to the light basecoat. After it's dry, place some highlights (with some lighter flesh colour) and some shades (just use some slightly darker wash/ink) in some places where you see it necessary, place some final highlights, finished. You can have a look at my painting tutorials of which both have pretty elaborate bits on painting faces (you can find them on my website/blog if you click the rather unsublte link in my signature). As for the leather, I'm using about three or four different recepies on this army but they're all somewhat similar: mid brown to dark brown basecoat, mix a little white or bleached bone to the base colour, do two layers of highlights. Wash with devlan mud or a mix of devlan mud and badab black. Paint on final highlights.
Hope that helped.
@Samurai33: Thanks. I'm pretty sure that his face is modelled after Lenin's. When you see it you'll probably get that impression too.Yes, the mortar guy in the left has a Catachan head, the bearded one in the middle got a regular cannon crew head if I remember correctly and the guy with the cannonball got a head from the Militia box.
News on the Empire army - there's a General and a BSB coming up for the Averlanders as well and on top of that a unit of Ironsides Handgunners.![]()
