Your stuff is great as always but the lava bases increase the quality to a high degree. Other lava bases i´ve seen are made by un-blended lines of oranges and yellows but yours are a perfect mix of "lava-like" colours. Congrats.

Please make a good alien scenery piece with that nest if that is possible. It looks so menacing!

The giant is turning out really great, Exellent skin tones and the lava base looks good to, much better then the ones I usually see.

I'm looking forward to seeing the progress of the chaos army.

By the way, I've had a look at your painting logs; impressive stuff. Do you play as well or just paint?
You're welcome and thanks for checking on my stuff! I mostly just paint (mainly because of a lack of painted armies...), but I do know the rules (to an extent) and I'd love to get some games in once in a while! Maybe it's time I got myself an army case of sorts...

On topic: The Giant looks just great! The red works perfectly as a contrasting colour without breaking the overall earthy tones. Well done! Can't wait to see him finished!

Oh, wow, the Giant has come a long way since I last checked in. The skin is great and the details nice and shiny. Either you did that really quickly or I've totally lost track of time

@captian Maklai: When composing a reply to a thread, underneath the attachments button, there's a drop down menu in a box which says "Thread suscription". There you can choose to be notified if there are replies to this thread if you like.

@Ludaman: Hi, thanks for the feedback.

@Ashton.Sanders: Thanks, first time I used this technique/shade on a 28mm mini. Seems to work fine.

@mistermaster: Thank you. The lack of blending is what bothers me about many lava bases too. The wasp nest's exterior structure is incredibly brittle and composed of very thin walls of what I suppose is wasp vomit. Its only purpose seems to be heat insulation.

@Malenky_malchick: Thanks, I hope to proceed as quickly as possible because there's LOADS of stuff to paint.

    @Harry: Cheers, mate!

@Monsterzonk: Yeah, I suggest getting an army case of some sort. I got the old GW one (got it with an army deal), made some myself and finally got a proper Feldherr one last winter and it really pays off in my opinion. You'll never get to drag around your army in just one case unless you get one of those seriously big, unwieldy ones but it's perfect for all the infantry one needs for games. Damage Unlimited got a load of different army cases from Feldherr recently, maybe you like to pay them a visit some time soon.

@levinas: Good to know that I could be of help. Good luck with the painting!

    @Catferret: lolthxm8

@Solun Decius: I proceeded quite quickly the past days but incredibly slow given the time I spent on this guy.

@Gargobot: Working on hive fleets, I suppose.

Some new pictures. As you probably could tell, there won't be any groundbreaking changes from update to update any more; it's mostly detailwork now. The famous last 20% of fine-tuning which take up 80% of the time.

Sorry for the slightly off colours on the shot of his backside. Dunno what went wrong. Still, the shots without the white background work out way better than the ones with the background which usually ended up very yellowish due to my desk lamp. The main thing that's still to be done is the bone parts on the club, some work on the hair and this nasty goat-waterskin. That's it. Not too confident when working with bone so the big skull thing on his club is an interesting challenge.

See you soon and thanks for the motivating replies guys!

Amazing. Just went through you log and you are truly gifted my friend. This giant is looking fantastic. The blending on the skin tones is something to aspire too. I love the details in your painting. The chaos star brand on the right cheek is awesome! Look forward to seeing the rest of this shape up. I am also super impressed with your Druchii. They all look fantastic and the old minis.....wow...i am so impressed at the level of detail you acheived on those. especially the dragon rider and the couldron of blood. I am a huge fan of your black guard as they are inspiring. I just got mine in the mail and now am motivated to paint them more than ever. Cannot wait to see your coldone knights again and also look forward to this Chaos army in progress! *SUBSCRIBE*

Beautiful giant! I love the subtle mutations like his hoofed foot, instead of the horned head and stuff!

    Keep it up!

    "So, what's your job then?"
    "I'm a tattoo artist."
"Oh, cool. So, what's, like, the worst job you've ever done?"
"Well, once I had to tattoo a giant's bum."

    Nice giant and wasp's nest.

Re: BfSP box, Dark Elves, Warmaster and various other stuff - by sigur

@npow34: Welcome to my log, thanks a lot for the positive feedback. Not sure when I will return to Dark Elves. I've been out of WHFB for quite some time now (gaming group disbanded, WHFB is seeming a bit scary to me at the moment, other projects) but I still got some DE left unpainted and plan to finish them some time in the future. When new witches are released at the latest. Don't like the current ones. Too little mohawk on them.

@Crazy Harbor: Yes, when giants break wind, the gas cloud even blurs photopgraphs.

@Dakkapantz: Cheers. I definately wanted to use the bearded head and first I thought of having no hooves at all but i guessed the customer would want him to look somewhat chaos-y.

@mrtn: That more or less sums it up I guess. Apprentice tatoo artists in the chaos wastes have to test their skills on giant butts and other nasties while the masters of the craft probably get to work on daemonettes.

Just a little text update: The giant is finished and the hounds have to wait until i get some new washes. The past two days have been kinda busy so I didn't do much at all but at least I put together the spawns (again, great kit) and based them. I also got another unit of Hoplites finished.

Aw, whatever, I did two snapshots of the spawns:

As you can see, I tried to keep the one in the left quite simple and in a way that you could guess that it once was something humanoid; some upstart champion weapons master dude or something. The other one is pure chaos-born silliness - a tentacle monster. That was the first thing I checked if I could do with the spawn kit of course. In the background, you can see some Hoplites. They aren't that spectecular up close but I kept them in the picture so you see that I'm not lying about their existance.

Comments and critique are welcome as always, hope to be able to deliver with picture updates soon!

P.S.: Thanks to you guys, this project log is amongst the top3 active Fantasy logs and we're not only getting close to 1000 posts but also 100,000 views. Not sure what of these events will happen sooner; let's see.

That giant is outstanding, although I don't envy the tattoo artist!

Spawns are also off to a promising start, I am loving your lava bases, really help to make the figures stand out.

Re: BfSP box, Dark Elves, Warmaster and various other stuff - by sigur

Some new pictures: I didn't have much of a plan of what to do with these guys actually so I fiddled around and looked what would be the result:

The tentacle one got one of these muscle string patterns in fleshy tones while the other guy is going to get a more gradient transistion from very dark on the lower legs to almost white on the top. I wanted to keep the two guys different enough because spawns are probably the most individualistic looking things on the old world, yet tried to keep a somewhat coherent look so they don't stand out too much when looking at the whole army. I don't have the new mortal chaos army book but I suppose you can't have spawns in ranked units because the minis are impossible to rank up anyway.

In the pictures, they look pretty bad compared to real life to be honest and I have no idea why. Maybe the high resolution of the cam is pretty unforgiving to these patterns and drybrushing while the stripes of the muscle fibre pattern look smoother to the human eye.

I admit, they look a bit monotonous at the moment but that will change once i started working on the details. This will break up the base colours with some contrast and will lead to much better results.

It's lunchtime for the spawns. Those tiny Greeks who are arrayed before the spawn.......What kind of sauce do the spawn like, me wonders?.

I guess Tsatsiki is the only possible choice in this case.

    Looking good Mr Sigur...

One thing that bugs me though, that maybe you can explain/deny/throw rocks at me until I go away... the areas where the 'arms', 'heads', etc join the body seem to join quite abruptly - there's no smooth transition - it still looks like they've been stuck on, rather than being organinc appendages... is this something you've noticed, or is it the photos showing up the slightest thing and it's not noticable in real life...?

Re: BfSP box, Dark Elves, Warmaster and various other stuff - by sigur

@Crube: Thanks for your comment. I see your point about the joins and they show in real life as well, especially on the un-tentacle-y one but it's not too bad (like on the new minotaurus heads). For being modular minis, the single add-ons look quite good. I think they look sufficiently coherent but I see that some people still might notice the joints.

Little update: Took pictures of the spawns, pictures sucked big time, will upload them soon though. Spaws are finished now. Assembled 16 Chaos Marauders (HW+shields, full command) as well as 5 chaos knights tonight. Didn't quite finish the knights, they still need shield arms glued on.

Will try to upload pictures tomorrow.
