Thread: Calling all London specialists!

  1. #1

    Calling all London specialists!

So the manager of the Oxford Street Games Workshop recently mentioned to me that he'd be happy to have a dedicated weekly Specialist Games night at his store.

That means SG systems exclusively on the gaming tables if there's demand for it.

He's offered Wednesday if enough people are interested (6-8ish would be the minimum).

So I thought I'd throw it out there, anyone fancy a regular SG evening at London's most central GW store?

    Learners & Veterans both welcome.

Post if you're interested and I'll get back to ya'll if there's enough replies.

I work in the area but only have Blood Bowl stuff with me.

The Warseer Blood Bowl league needs YOU.

    Re: Calling all London specialists!

There are some blood bowl players at the store already IIRC who would be happy to get some games in.

Alternatively I'm sure one of the other gamers would be happy to lend you another Specialist-Game-type army for another system.

Currently Epic & Necromunda are being heavily played at the store (Enough that it might be worth setting up a seperate night for the SG systems anyway).

Hold on, I'll post this on some INQ sites and see if there's any take-up.

Can people email you if they're interested?

    What time would it be?

I get out of work at 5:30, drive home by 6(ish) then it'd take me an hour on the train. So the earliest I'd get there would be 7, but most likely 7:30pm. How many hours of playing time does that leave?

Well, with the new Empire models I could quite posibly do a Mordheim Warband again. On Oxford Street, that's the shop in the shoppingcenter (2nd floor), right?

    Re: Calling all London specialists!

    Yeah, the plaza.

    Re: Calling all London specialists!

Yep the Plaza store is the one.

The Plaza shopping centre closes at 8, so we'd have (from whatever time you can arrive / get away from work) until 8.

I'm self-employed so on the normal 'core' gaming evening I tend to arrive around 4pm and have time enough for two games.

This is looking quite promising in number of replies across the various forums so far.

Currently the Plaza has a Necromunda campaign ongoing, and there's quite a few Epic & Bbowl players, so those games have a 'current' foundation... once we've a better idea of the mix of players coming along we could expand into more campaigns like Mordheim & Inquisitor too.

Can people email you if they're interested?
Sure, though it'd be easier to just get 'em to post on one of the forums where I've started one of these threads.

The Plaza has lots of the new 40k city terrain which makes for great Inquisitor games incidentally.

irish_meadow (at) hotmail.com is me if they'd prefer to email.

(replace (at) with @... though I get so much spam I don't know why I bother trying to hide my email address from the web crawlers any more!)

EDIT: The plaza also has lots of SM1/2-era Epic scale buildings. (About 50 of them)

Right, next time I go home, I shall pick up my Epic things. Couple of Titans, a few Space Marines... a Waaagh.

Do they play Epic 40K or Epic Armageddon?

  12. #12

    Re: Calling all London specialists!

Epic Armageddon is played. If you're not familiar with the latest edition of the rules there'll be people around who can help you out.

We've got several marine players, a Titan Legion player, several IG players, at least two eldar players, an Ork player... etc. A healthy enough Epic scene that you can always get a game basically.

Which is part of the reason that the Manager asked if I thought there was support for a SG-only evening basically.

Until I'm sure that there'll be enough people to give the go-ahead signal for all the forum peeps to decend on GW on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays are the best days to get a pick-up game.

It seems that I shall have to dive into E:A then. Boo and hiss. Never mind, if it gets my Orks givin' it sum dakka then it's worthwhile.

I wonder if the place is large enough for another Titan Legion army (I have two Warhounds and 8 Warlords )?

    Hey Swiftblade.

    I like magnets.

There you know who I am now.

I'm going to set a tentative date of Wednesday the 15th for the first SG evening (That's next week), though I'll have to clear it with 'da boss first, and be certain that we're going to get enough people.

I'll be there - but none of my SG stuff will be, it's all 100 miles away.

Unless, of course, I can get home this w/e.

    Re: Calling all London specialists!

Not a problem I'll try and ensure there's plenty of spares to go around for the first few weeks until things settle in.

Feel free to spread the word to any others you think might be interested in a weekly SG systems evening.

    Re: Calling all London specialists!

Will you be running particular games on alternate weeks or anything? I've always wanted to give Mordheim a go and have played Blood Bowl casually (i.e. only out the box). But I'm not really up for epic or even Inquisitor (too many fingers in too many pies already). How likely is easch given system to be represented on any given Wednesday, and will there be any sort of campaign running or is it probably going to be one off games?

*wanders off to look at beastman warband rules and think appropriately evil thoughts*

    Re: Calling all London specialists!

I'd hope that we could have onrunning campaigns for the systems (Necromunda actually has a campaign running at the Plaza right now, while Mordheim isn't hard to do either. Blood Bowl seems pretty easy to sort out a leaderboard or knockout ladder for. Inquisitor is a bit different as in general you need a GM for a campaign, and there currently isn't much of an Inquisitor base at the store***).

So most likely we'll have onrunning campaigns / leader boards for each system that is played enough.

There are 4 gaming tables at minimum, with the possibility of more if things get busy enough. Certainly enough to have lots of game systems running at once. Blood Bowl doesn't even need a big table.
