What to do with a horribly old Razorback

A few years ago I picked up a smallish ultramarine army wich I intended to repaint and add to my templar army. Naturally they wound up being left more or less untouched until quite recently.
It includes a a very old style razorback, the one with a lascannon and twin plasma guns. First I figured I'd use as is, but in 4th edition, that configuration isnt legal anymore (and it pretty much sucked anyway). If I VDR it, it'll cost 129 pts, but at least the guns can be mounted coaxially then.
I tried prying it apart and making a... well pretty much anything else rhino based out of it but it seems the last owner moleculary bonded the the turret to the hull and theres no way I'm getting it off without killing the poor Rhino stuck to it.
I might be able to saw off the guns though and replace them with a spare twin bolter from the Crusader set and turn it into a legal (but still ugly) Razorback.

Does anyone else have any suggestions, because noneof the above really appeal to me.

    Hey Pendragon,

You could always send it to me for a few bucks($US). I like 'em and the old model fits with most my other stuff as it is older as well.

Make it into a blown up Rhino/Razerback.

Then you have something that looks good on the table when someone pops your transport.

I did that with my old stuff.

Give it to a kid to help him start his army.

    or

use it as the begining of your ork army. Make it your first looted vehicle! its pretty hard to find a vehicle that looks so crappy it cant be looted.

Ok use a dremel to remove the plasma guns, a TL lascannon is still legal.
Or pop the entire top part of the rhino off and bits order another.

    I'll second this. A wreck.

The coolest looking table at the LA Games Day was the ork table, replete with trashed Land Raider sides, piles of bike tires, trashed vehicles - just a massive junk yard.

That's a little ambitious for you or me, I suppose. For our humble tables we have at home, the ripped up rhino would be a good item to replace blown up vehicles.

My local GW shop just did come up with a couple terrain pieces that are exactly that: a couple land raider sides, chewed up sprue pieces for the guts of the wreck, on top of some styrofoam/polystyrene.

I agree with this. With the price of a new tank kit, it would be a waste to turn it into terrain, no matter how cool it would look.

Re: What to do with a horribly old Razorback

use the "counts as" rule and field it as a Razorback with TL Lascannons. cant see anyone complaining over that, as (a) GW screwed you over, (b) its not like they could confuse it with some other Razorback Variant, as it has a Lascannon and certainly doesnt have a Heavy Bolter, (c) plasma guns are similar to Lascannons anyway (same AP, high Strength), so they shouldnt get mixed up.

    hope that helps

How about removing the turret and using it as a normal Rhino? You might have to do a bit of modelling to cover the place where the turret was - a hatach with storm bolter and some other accessories could work, as well as PVA soaked tissue (to make a sort of tarp when it dries).

Or just change the weapons. Or sell the model on eBay.

I'll through my opinion behind the terrain idea. It doesn't even have to be a recent wreck. You could cover it in vines and other flock and make it look like its been there or years.

I heartily second the "use it as a 'counts as' TL LC Razorback".

Re: What to do with a horribly old Razorback

Make an imposing piece of terrain. Maybe even make it an objective? An ancient relic of the chapter's past, lost in a disastrous redeployment during a campaign against a splinter fleet of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Brother-Techmarine Heinrich was lost along with his tech-relics. Las-batteries depleted, servitors destroyed, and pierced through both lungs by a lictor, Brother Heinrich commended his soul to the Emperor-Omnissiah and detonated the plasma grenade at his belt.

Now, fifty years on, the Templars have come to reclaim their own....

As other posters have suggested, cover it with vines, dirt, whatever suits the other terrain pieces you have. Inflict some battle damage on the razorback, but not TOO much. Battle damage is incidental to Tyranids: they're in it for the proteins. Making it a Techmarine vechicle mitigates the problem that it looks really strange. Making it a piece of terrain also helps hide the fact that this old model is FAR too small to carry 6 marines, even if they literally squat inside. Making the history about Tyranids helps explain why the tech has not been looted.

    Idea?

I think it would be ok to use it as TL lascannon.

    Smash it with a stick.

Whether or not you turn it into something useful afterwards is irrelevant.

Re: What to do with a horribly old Razorback

Would you let someone use it in a friendly game or tournament you oragnized as long as he used it as it is in the previous SM: codex? I e 85 pts and no coaxial guns.

The techmarine idea was a good one. My techie needs a ride.
